Dhruv Kobawala: Should We Use ‘Lord’ Before Names!

Why is ‘Lord’ written before the names of Britishers in our textbooks? In general parlance ‘Lord’ is used for the gods. The meaning of the word ‘Lord‘ in the Bible means ‘A name for God’. Have any of the Britishers like Lord Minto or   Lord Wellesley really done anything good for our country? All they did was rule like tyrants, treated Indians like slaves and abused them on the slightest pretext for around 200 years. Our New Education Policy should rectify this anomaly.

I too agree that most of the Governor Generals of Britain have done no good to us. They thought that we Indians were uncivilized and illiterate. That is why they first came as a trading company and ended up capturing the whole territory. But if we observe carefully,we can see that Generals like Lord Dalhousie etc. have done good for us. So they started considering themselves as ''LORDS''. But, history is history and we definitely can''t change this policy.

people should really think about it.

May be there is a tradition or something to call britishs LORD, that is why we call them lord.

Himanshi Dhawan Saffron Public School

I agree. It''s unethical to give a person the title of "LORD". Who have considered India as a country perfect for exploitation, do not deserve such a title. I am completely against this.

Yashita Nagpal BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

Ever thought about why we follow british culture if we really hate britishers for making Indians slaves? No! Also there were many britishers who were directly or indirectly involved in our freedom stuggle .So why not let them follow their tradition.

Brenda Marshal PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

We can use the word Sir instead of Lord.

Vishakha Bhalla BOSCO SR.SEC.SCHOOL( PASCHIM VIHAR)

Using Lord before their names, Britishers showed unnecessary supremeness on the Indians, lord refers to the other name of God and god never suggested to rule or suppress the common innocent people, so why they misused the name of god.

Haya Naved FATHER AGNEL SCHOOL(GAUTAM NAGAR)

It is absolutely wrong to use ''Lord'' before the names of those who didn''t do anything good. Rather spoilt the peace of a country.

The title ''Lord'' should be given to people deserving respect, but do the governor generals deserve respect. According to me no , the way they treated us make them deserve contempt and not respect. There must be a change

Aishwarya Iyer Deens Academy

Lord gives the British, too much of undeserving respect. Although it is a part of our history and it cannot be changed where it already ahs been used, we can certainly stop using it henceforth. They have, as many others said too, not done any good to our country and we have no need to call them Lords. They are not fit for the title. We can call the refer to the generals as generals. Such as General Dalhousie or Cornwalis, although it may be weird.

Sarath Kumar RM Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

Definitely not. The word Lord must not be used in front of names.

Sarath Kumar RM Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

No person can be compared with God. So the name Lord must not be used in front of names of common people.

Nice article. Something we should really think about.

I agree!

Yah. It is a point to be noted.

Arshini .B Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

I agree in that .Very few generals helped in development of India .But I don''t agree in calling then as Lord

It is a faith full trust on god or just they do not exist or do they?
