Abhishek Singh: How Generation Gap Affects Us?

“Don’t blame your child as he was born in another time”- Rabindranath Tagore.

Generation Gap is nothing but the presence of a dissimilar ideology and opinion between two generations. According to scientists who are busy studying generation X, Y, Z, baby boomers, strawberry generation, a new generation pops up every decade. By this logic, a gap of a whole generation is created between the parent and child generation.

How generation gap affects us? We all know the answer to it. Why is it that our children are quick learners when it comes to technology? Our parents have an excellent memory? Our grandparents have such high morals? The answer lies in the idea of a generation gap. It certainly is advantageous as it results in human evolution with time in the same way as we evolved from pre-historic humans to modern humans but it is too has its own demerits. As the generation gap is broadening the families are experiencing more and more quarrels and disputes because of conflict in thinking ways and opinions.

We must understand that we are always in control of our actions. The generation gap can be narrowed down by love, affection and care. That is what all we need. Only then can we be called a modern human civilisation. All generations have similar values, they just express them differently.

Generation gap is sometimes a very disastrous thing. It can lead to the separation of families. We should always be careful that we do not insult our parents or any elders due to the variation in the thinking. It can cause a major damage to our life.

Generation gap results in differing of ideologies, etiquettes and it leads to futile arguments and conservations which can be avoided. The older generation should adapt as per the new trends because probably the whole world could not turn orthodox.

Well, generation gap is a very explosive thing. It creates miscommunication between generations. It''s not always that I will share a common interest with my parents or grandparents. Time is changing and we have to change with time. One should be very careful while dealing with such sensitive issues. Don''t say something offensive to your elders.

It''s always said that generation gap between Father and children so on . I strongly believe that this is mainly because, we the so called new generation thinks that old people are not broad minded and don''t know much about the fast moving technology. But the real fact is we are not trying to understand the elderly people. If we are keeping ourselves open to accept the ideologies of elders and same they do , the concept of generation gap will not arise.

generation gap is nothing to be afraid of....its the beauty of evolution....we must accept it as a boon...to gain knowledge about what we''ve not experienced....and to know about the values now lost...and try to inculcate them....its a bit challenging too because of different view points...but this is not THE reason for quarrels.. most of the times it''s the way we express ourselves that matters....we must explain our view points politely and calmly.. they will surely understand us if we do so

Sarath Kumar RM Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

Generation gaps should always be filled with morals and affection. There must be peaceful coexistence between the young and the old.

parents need to understand that their child is different and they need to give them the freedom necessary

Definitely generation gap has an adverse impact on our society.

Generation gap often leads to misunderstanding between people. Generation gap in marriages should be avoided as it can lead to complications. Though not in siblings, I have a sister who is 10 years younger than me, that is, she is only 3 and I am 13...we do fight but then later we are back to our mode...
