‘We Need Censorship For Tv And Internet’

If you were wondering what Sunny Deol is up to these days, well, the actor has plenty on his plate and likes it that way. ‘An idle mind... is the worst thing to happen to anyone in Bollywood,’ the Ghayal actor tells Deebashree Mohanty. He also expresses his views on the censorship issue. Read on...

We have heard that there are plans for Ghayal 3 in the pipeline. Tell us more.
I feel very passionately about this film and would love to take this franchise forward. Unfortunately I can’t find a tight script and a good director who is willing to helm this project.

You have primarily been an action hero, do you think action sequences in Bollywood have changed?
We still like to continue with the hero-hitting-villain-flying concept (laughs). Although we have evolved technically, I would say we still have  a long way to go. We somehow cannot seem to make action scenes more real.

What do you enjoy the most — acting, directing or producing?
Acting is fun, sans any responsibility. When you are the filmmaker, you get to create something and say what you want to say in totality. Production is comparatively more difficult. I enjoy all three though!

Who is Sunny Deol’s partner in crime?
Don’t take me as an arrogant man but I have no friends within the fraternity. I believe that we make friends only during school. And then, it’s a matter of convenience.

Your son Karan is preparing for his debut... Any advice for him?
At present we are in the pre-production stage. I don’t have any advice as such but as a parent I can only teach him what is right or wrong. After a certain age, you do what you want to do and I have given him the independence to pursue his dreams.

What films are you working on?
I am entirely focused on Karan’s film. Apart from that, I’m shooting ‘Bhaiyyaji Superhit’ where I am in a double role with Preity Zinta and Ameesha Patel. I am also part of the remake of the Marathi film Poshter Boyz, directed by Shreyas Talpade. Bobby (Deol), Shreyas and I are acting in it. I am in talks with SS Rajamouli for my next production.

Your views on the censorship saga…
As creative people, we never want any curbs on our work. I would want only certification. People deciding these things should look at films as works of fiction. Many a time, other parties get involved, which should not be the case. Actually, we need to censor the internet and TV where people often get away with anything.
