Yashna Says Admire This Country

As I sit down thinking about my nation, which mind you, is not something which is quite unique, not only nowadays, but which has become our habit from the day of our independence; I smile.

I smile, that positivity comes from somewhere within. A fact I am proud of. Not many ‘optimists’ like me are found. It’s not that I am ignorant. Ignorance isn’t bliss for any politically conscious citizen. But yet there’s something, something that the ones groaning about standing in queues in school tomorrow have missed, have forgotten.

No, I am not writing to mock at the common man. You see I am a common man myself. I’m the common man who cannot stand the rich drenching the wealth of the poor, leaders filling their pockets with money, women feeling insecure everywhere ,communalism prevailing. I don’t call India a prefect nation. But, I question someone deep within your heart- Haven’t we all taken the journey of darkness to light?

For you see our consciousness is our achievement. THIS IS OUR big achievement. That we aren’t quiet; we perceive, we question, we criticize; this is our power, our nation’s power. That no force, no fear can stop us; That we realize our rights; we unite for our common freedom –The spirit of a true democracy. That every evening you stroll in a garden and hear the oldest group discussing how corrupt a politician is, the way we immediately launch movements when something wrong happens even to a single citizen, the innocent questions we ask to ourselves while reading the newspaper...Isn’t it my achievement?

Don’t you realize that the optimism in my heart is shared by you too? Then why just sit down perceiving tomorrow as just a national holiday, for it’s not JUST a holiday, and we’re not JUST a group of people, but CITIZENS, citizens of this very beautiful country.
