Steffy George's Writes On Handling Peer Pressure

Peer pressure is beneficial as long as we know our limits. It is all up to us how we choose to not get influenced by our peers. If people in our circle are drinking alcohol, smoking or getting addicted to drugs, even then we will not be influenced by them if we are strong and filled with conviction of not going on the wrong track. So it all comes down to us. We tend to get influenced by the lifestyle of our peers. Their thinking, their choices and their behaviour influences us. We feel compelled to follow them. That's peer pressure. It is beneficial to a certain extent. But learn to distinguish between the good and the bad. Everyone needs to be shielded from negative peer pressure, and the solution is not in isolating someone from peers, it’s in teaching them to make good choices in life. A strong support from family, an ability to differentiate between the right and the wrong and the skill to choose friends from peers is the key to greet the positive effects of peer pressure and keep the negative ones at bay.
Do you agree with what my suggestion on handling peer pressure?

We should have our owe identity . We know who we are , our potential, etc . We should not be influenced by any one .

Harini MS NAGARJUNA VIDYANIKETAN

It''s very true when you said that we must learn to differentiate between the good and the bad. We many a times get into peer pressure because we think what they are talking is wrong, when in fact, it is 100% right. We must learn to understand the reason behind their chiding us before coming to conclusions.

Nowadays we do things even though we do not want to, we do it under peer pressure. We have our own personality to represent ourselves in front of a group of people. When we see someone is doing something that is making them famous, even we start doing the activity. E.g. Someone has a phone even you will want a phone.

I completely agree on the suggestions. It is very important to distinguish between what is right and what is not!

Yes,it depends on us how we take the things. We should be well matured for the good and bad things happening around us and the way we should get influenced by them.

Yes,its depended on us how we take everything from our side. We should be well matured about good and and bad things happening around us and know how we should get influenced by it.

Positive peer pressure should be accepted while heartedly whereas when one compels you to do something unacceptable, all should do is to advocate him/her about the disadvantages of that particular thing and if he/she refuses to listen to us then it''s better to leave his/her company.

Himanshi Dhawan Saffron Public School

YES, I do agree with what you have said. Peer pressure today, stands out to be one of the major reasons why students get depressed and commit suicide. So, be the way you are. Don''t change yourself for the sake of your friends or the society.

Yes I do agree with this comment.

As students, often deeds which shouldn''t be done are being many. And a great part of these actions are a result of PEER PRESSURE. One should always be possessive about one''s identity. Never let anyone influence you. Before imitating what others do, one should always think - " Will doing what he/she is doing be good for me? How will it affect me?" . After all, in the long run, or the "rat race" as it is commonly called, what matters is YOU and YOUR PERSONALITY.
