Shruthi: An Open Letter To Society

Dear Society,

Hi! This is a letter I'm writing on behalf of all my mates out there who didn't have the courage to shout out. First things first. I am really thankful that you have given me such wonderful people with whom I share many things and play with - my friends. They seem to be the only people who think like me. Thank you for giving me such cool friends.

But, why did you give us those toppers? They tend to be our greatest enemies even if we don't want to have enmity with them. Somethings never change, so does this education system. I don't understand how rotting up random stuff is going to be of any use to me? And you the 'so-called society' keep taunting me based on my marks.

I love to paint and I have enormous interest towards sports. I sing and dance well too. But still I'm termed as a 'Nikkamma'(useless fellow) as I could not shine in academics. Why? Why can't I do something that interests me? Why should I run behind something in vain? Why can't I do and achieve great things in the field I love? Hundreds of questions haunt me. They don't let me sleep.

Please, let me breathe!! I am something beyond my marks. Now, that my board exams are over even the strangest stranger claims himself/herself to be my long lost friend and asks for my marks? How does my marks matter to you? Can we please stop this tradition. After all class X and XII is not the end of life. Thank you so much your concern but it hurts.

Thomas Edison failed, Albert Einstein failed but they were not failures. They just failed in matters that were not their cup of tea. I am one among a million. Don't try to suppress me, I'm like the Phoenix. I'll keep rising come what may. If my destiny wants me to rise I will and no one can stop me. Instead help me by lighten my path ahead. I'll always be grateful. In every good deed of mine you are behind me, I would need your help. Support me! Lend me a helping hand!

Thanking you,

Yours truly forever,

All of us...

As I ask my kin why do my marks matter, they have no proper answer expect the deadly cliche ''For your life''! Oh shoot! We''ve to get out of this! Mark sheets are just a sheet of paper! I love reading my text books, but not for marks. Let''s get out of this!!!
