Roshan Ittiachan: Killing Strays Is Not A Solution

The number of stray dogs is on the rise in Kerala and so are the incidents of attacks on people, some even causing death. This has become a serious issue in the state. The solution does not lie in killing dogs recklessly, which is what is happening at present. It is unfair and unethical. I am a dog lover and so, I am willing to do anything within my capacity to protect them. We kill dogs because society says that they kill us. But I would like to know what happens when women who are abused by their own kith and kin get no justice? Don’t the perpetrators of crimes deserve to be punished? Just because the dog is an animal, can it be killed mindlessly? They too have the right to live. Are the strays born stray? No. But I know that we are paving the way for strays. Many release their pet dogs when they are old, beat them, tease them and even harm them so that they do not return. The stray dogs too have stories to tell. They mingle with other dogs and give birth to more dogs. Killing is not the solution, as a dog will never attack without being provoked.

Its the worse thing to kill any animal as they also have life and they also like to be free.

Animals got a life and they too have got the right to live it in their own way. The government must not set free those who kill stray dogs without giving it even a thought. Killing someone is a crime, and so those who kill animals must also be punished.

Everything has got an alternative. violent stray dogs should be sent to rehab''s or dog care center''s under the government instead I suggest people should try if they could keep a dog as a pet. It will be like giving a life to someone hopeless.

Killing stray dogs is certainly no the solution, instead we can build shelters for these stray dogs and anyone who wants a dog can just adopt it from the shelter.Animals just like humans have the right to leave and should not be killed just like that, even dogs have a life and family.....sometimes they hurt others just to defend themselves or to protect their family.
