Prabhleen: Technology Turning Teens Into Couch Potatoes

Walking with time is an important aspect of life. But at the same time it has a number of disadvantages also. With the advancement in science and technology, human race has evolved much during the past few years. Science, no doubt is a blessing for us. It has given us many great inventions. But as a rose has thorns, this great blessing can become a curse if misused.

Internet has led to the invention of social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Snapchat and Skype. These social networking sites are very helpful but have a darker side too. Teenagers have become addicted to these sites. This has led to many problems being cornered by the students. They spend their valuable time in chatting with friends for long hours.

Cyber bullying is one of the major problems caused by this. Due to the harmful addiction, they have started neglecting their studies. Physical activities are becoming very less in children as they are always desperate to stay at home in front of the mobile phones or computers.

In a nutshell, I would say that it is the duty of the parents and teachers to make children realize the harm they are doing to their own self. Parents should make sure not to leave mobile phones with their children at night. They should ensure that their children go out, engage themselves in physical activity and enjoy the best part of their lives ‘childhood’.

Moreover, teenagers should themselves realise the consequences of such careless attitude towards studies as it is better to be safe than sorry. We should try to bring the ray of hope back in a child’s life by motivating him to become successful by making the best possible use of his time.

Absolutely right, good things in excess turn to poisson for us if misused. We as students should value time and make a fruitful use of it.
