Linet Christina: Students Just Want The Approval Of Adults

She adds to my call to not judge everyone by their marksheet

Albert Einstein has truly said “Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

But that’s what is happening. Most of us are full of remorse our receiving our report cards.

It has been 12 years of my school life, and the entire time everyone has attempted to make me believe that marks make much more sense than any kind of experience you hold or skill you have.

The society has given undue prominence to these numeric values because they think that if we do not score well, our career will be uncertain. We are not free to choose our goals. Our talent,   knowledge and curiosity are garbage if our report card doesn’t flash 10 GPA. Someone who has a 7 GPA is dumb, even if he can rock the entire floor with his guitar.

Do report cards make you question your self-worth?

How can we convince people around us to trust us more than our report cards?

In today''s world this statement is irrelevant for our parents and the public but it is truly relevant if we understand it deeply. An individual''s character should never be judged on the basis of his/her marks or grades. His/her skills and talents should be taken into consideration.

Bhavana Jaison Atomic Energy Central School No 2

Never try to convince others that we are the best . Time will solve this problem. But one should make oneselves understand what one need and where one is lagging.

Khushi Sharma BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

A class consists of future politicians, entrepreneurs, athletes, fashionistas, lawyers and what not? So, judging a child entirely on his report card is absolutely wrong because each child is talented in his own field. One should let them chase their dreams instead of scolding them for their grades.

Radhika Ghildiyal BGS National Public School

I don''t think so that we should really judge people on the basis of their grades. God created people differently and has given them different talents. We should be appreciating what they can do.

Haya Naved FATHER AGNEL SCHOOL(GAUTAM NAGAR)

I think every child is born with a certain skill or quality. Its not always that you have to prove yourself only through your report card. Some kids might not be able to score a 10 CGPA but they might be able to play a certain sport very well or write very well or maybe speak very well. Marks never decide your future, it is your personality, your skills and your behavior which will decide your future.

MEGHA BANSAL RAINBOW ENGLISH SCHOOL (JANAKPURI)

Those who make us think so dumb about ourselves just need to ask our teachers, Hods, great doctors or managers they are in contact that what used to be their scores in schools. I am sure that 80% replies are similar to their child''s report cards whom they called ''good for nothing''. And now what would they like to say?

saishalini Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

People should trust the students and not the report card and help them to understand their real talents and give them confidence and moral support which makes them to attain heights and reach the zenith.

Nishi Upadhyay BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

It is a fact that in our country our report card is our identity. No one cares about what skills you have . All they care about is your marks. To answer your question that how can we convince people to trust us than our report cards , I would say it would take years.

JIYA TOMAR B G S NATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL

Times have changed and todays world has become such of a kind wherein everyone is a contestant of the fierce race to gain success and therefore, marks do make a difference and instead of merely sulking about parents and teachers forcing us to get good marks in exams, we must actually strive to accomplish doing so for our betterment

indhuja.r Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

it is true.people do judge students based on their mark.but these marks mean nothing.people should value the talents of students rather than imposing on good marks.we should understand that a single sheet of paper will never decide the future of a kid..

Thakur Aastha REUBS

Our result is not everything in 21st century its all about ur knowledge, skills, smartness, ability, and ofcourse personality. In todays world student should not only be master in studies but they should be all rounder.

Linet Christina Thomas Ryan International School Nallasopara

It''s important for us to understand that there is so much more to students than the life ,there is more to school than just a report card.It is heartwarming and sometimes heartbreaking to see how much students actually just want the approval of the adults and peers in their lives and they will really go the extra mile to earn it.

Sanjula Gupta BHAWAN VIDYALAYA CHD-SEC-27

Judging students by their marksheet has been there in the society for long. It is going to take some time to change the perception of people. It won''t happen overnight. But yes, I see positive changes too as parents have become more understanding.

Vihan R. Yalamanchili DDMS P.OBUL REDDY PUBLIC SCHOOL

When it comes to education, factors other than one''s marks should also be considered for one''s self worth, such as behavior, discipline, sports, extra-curricular activities, etc. Poor grades shouldn''t mark the end of a good life for a student,

Prince Paul BOSCO SR.SEC.SCHOOL( PASCHIM VIHAR)

Thanks alot guys ! people like you can really make a differeence !!!

Y.HEMA SRITA SISTER NIVEDITA SCHOOL,Ameerpet

One should not waste his/her time in convincing others. If one gets good marks in science(Biology) that does not mean that he/she will become a doctor. The grades of an individual does not decide his/her future . Their talents and interests are to be given importance and should be taken into consideration.

RAGINI ST JOSEPH INTER COLLEGE RAJAJI PURAM LUCKNOW

NOWDAYS,THERE IS A CUT THROAT COMPETITION AMONG YOUTH WHEATHER IT IS A ABOUT THE MEDICAL ENGINEERING, RELATED OR FASHION ENGINEERING IN WHICH YOUTH FOUND THEMSELVES IN CONFUSION KEEP LOOSING FAITH IN OURSELVES I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE BE FAITHFUL TOWARDS THE TALENT WE POSSESS RATHER THAN WORRIED ABOUT UPCOMING REPORT CARD

Bhawna Goel HAMDARD PUBLIC SCHOOL(SANGAM VIHAR)

Bhawna Goel HAMDARD PUBLIC SCHOOL It takes all types to make the world go `round and aren’t we glad that’s the case, because I don’t want to do the math…and even though I love music, I can’t carry a tune by myself to save my soul. I can sing along and do okay..but solos you don’t want to hear it… So I appreciate the talents of others and love to support them in increasing that talent.

MEGHA BANSAL RAINBOW ENGLISH SCHOOL (JANAKPURI)

Once they used to but my parents have changed it all for me. They have helped me believe that this paper pieces shouldn''t make me question myself.

Vishnu Varthan J Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

To trust us we should prove ourselves when opportunity arrives to show our talents , we should take up that and show our best and the people around us automatically trust in us than report card.

S SRIHARINI MOTHER'S INTEGRAL SCHOOL

Everyone feels rank and grade are important but no one knows why they keep tests they actually keep tests for memory power and not all grades , they are just for competition . But do we ever remember which we got in U.K.G. , people feel rank is more important but no , only knowledge is important .

Nishi Upadhyay BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

we can''t convince them until or unless we show them.

Praganya Singh DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL (EOK) EAST OF KAI

By my point of view, we should always try to explore our talents, rather than keep hittin'' our head and life in the direction which the society believes, and want us to forcefully persuade>>> every child has a different thinking and a different interest :) we should always support a child''s interest, and letting him/her know their various talents, and we should always encourage them to make it more better... we should never judge a child by his report card, marks, scores and grades. :D

Priya singh BOSCO SR.SEC.SCHOOL( PASCHIM VIHAR)

Well said because it is a common fact that a person with extra ordinary talent is DUMB if he/she does not achieve a 10cgp
