Keerthana: We Need A Sporting Culture

Sports inculcates in us a sense of passion, satisfaction, and self-recognition. This makes a person accept defeat as life is a series of ups and downs. Sports will bring recognition to the country and also unite it. It will inspire the youth as well. In spite of all these merits Indian Sporting culture is by far lagging behind countries like Russia, America and China.

The main reasons for such a sporting culture in India are lack of recognition of talent, infrastructure and encouragement. People are struck in the same old world where they give importance only to education and forget that sports and co-curricular activities are vital for the all-round development of a person. We are all carrying the same radical thought with us that only emphasizes on education and this world is only meant for educated people. We tend to forget that due to physical activities the person is mentally relieved of stress and can eventually perform well in academics.

The government has to take up an initiative to promote sports in the country. Apart from the government, schools, colleges, training institutions, funding organisations, prominent industrialists, media and celebrities must also promote sports in order to see a developing culture of sports in India. If the government and the people of our country have a meticulous plan, India can surely bag a few medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Our country has one of the largest youth population. The primary reason we are not able to produce any sportsmen/sportswomen is because of lack of infrastructure and very low government support. If adequate support and attention is given to training and equipping talented sports-persons, we might top the Olympics score board.

Yes i definately agree.sporting culture is the heart beat of any country. It defines enthusiatic nature of a nation that is indirectly the health of a nation. In our country, the outlook towards sport should be enhanced and beholded as a career. The sporting culture should be equally weighed to academics. And then surely our country will head any sporting event in the world.

I completely agree with you. In Fact our athletes under the guidance and care of the sports minister Col Rajyavardhan Rathore have proven that if sports is given the required attention even Indian athletes can outshine others by giving India it''s best ever Asian Games result in 58 years. People now are slowly realising the importance of sports which is a good sign. The government too has brought out schemes like Khelo India and proposals like making a games period mandatory in school.
