Jessica Kabuli: Tuitions, Necessary Evil?

Everybody wants to do outdo others in exams; no one wants to lag behind in today’s world. Parents want their children to be toppers – and they are ready to spend hefty amounts on tuitions. In many schools, the student teacher ratio is 1:50, so it is not possible for them to give even a minute to each student personally. That’s why students start opting for extra help. Gradually, this extra help turns into a necessary evil. Nowadays almost 80 per cent of students opt for tuitions. A lengthy syllabus, with frequent changes leaves them with no choice but to depend on tuitions. Tuition centres have thus become big money churning institutions where tutors prepare readymade notes for students to cram everything instead of learning or understanding anything. It is important to change our way of learning and studying. Just cramming is not enough. We live in an era which is marks-oriented rather than knowledge-based. Having said that, no matter which school you go to, tuition centres are actually your key to success. Due to their vast experience and resources, these centres help bridge the gap between the average and the achievers. Tuition tutors are ‘saviours’ in disguise for students incapable of self study. And one can’t deny the fact that all the money we spend on tuitions does help us in getting good marks and admission in good colleges!

Basically it depends upon the mindset of the people. Some people may dislike tutions while for others it can work out as a blessing. If you cannot understand a particular topic in school then you can learn it in the tutions. But according to me Tutions are a mere waste of time.

Khushi Sharma BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

Though tuitions aid us in scoring better grades but we can''t deny the fact that schools play an equally salient role in our results. Schools are the place where one not only gathers knowledge but also learns other essential lessons of life too.

Dhruv Ranjan DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL (INDIRAPURAM)

With the increasing competition ,tuitions are a must in today''s world. But it would be wrong to quote them "necessary evil" as the scenario may differ from student to student.I agree to the fact that they prohibit a student to be self reliable and kills his most of the time as he / she may not get enough time for self-study, that again is very important.

Renisha Christy.R Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

According to me, tuitions are actually a waste of time. Schools teach us most of the necessary things. Tuitions are just places where you learn instead of at home. And you don''t get a better atmosphere than at home, do you?

Sumedh Chavan ST. PATRICKS HIGH SCHOOL

Well tuition classes are useful for students who find it hard to organize their time and are lazy. Its not necessarily needed if you enjoy studies. But, I thing tuition classes at higher standard can be useful so as to gather more information!!!!

Ilesh Tripathi HBK - CHHATRAL BRANCH

Tution classes are important but if you will focus in school what the teacher is teaching you will not need help of tution.

saishalini Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

Tuitions are the one which makes the students a little lazy because students rather than reading the lessons twice or thrice which would naturally make them stronger in studies depend on tuitions and degrade their own potential.

Gaurav Mahajan Cambridge School, Kandivali (E)

Nowadays there is only competition in this world.People are always in a need to cross each other and score more. The requirement of a tuition depends upon the opinion of a student .Some students have a better concentration power manage to study by their selves but students who are weaker must either try to improve their concentration or enroll in tuitions but according to my opinion tuitions are not so required as every kind of study material is found in the market.

It depends on an individual. Some may like it and some may not. I don''t like tution classes. I feel them to be too time consuming. I think that a student can score better through self-study. Sometimes, we also have to change our daily clock to work accordingly the tuition teacher''s routine.

Sanjula Gupta BHAWAN VIDYALAYA CHD-SEC-27

i disagree on this point that tuitions are a necessary evil. It all depends on the student. If they listen attentively in class and give time for self study, then there is no requirement of tuitions. I have never opted for tuitions yet I never see myself lagging behind others.

Vishakha Bhalla BOSCO SR.SEC.SCHOOL( PASCHIM VIHAR)

Yes! it is impossible for a teacher to take care of each and every student...so in this case a student would need an external help to score the desired marks. No doubt school is extremely important but for high school studies coachings are nowadays in priority if the child is not able to understand anything in school

Mansi Borade PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

I THINK THAT WHO DON''T UNDERSTAND THAT WHAT TEACHERS TEACH THEN THE THING IS RIGHT WE GO TO TUITION .

Bhavana Jaison Atomic Energy Central School No 2

I don''t agree that tuitions are Savior of children. According to me if one can learn with the help of teachers and parents then there will be a bass in what you learn . Your doubts will be clarified And one will be feeling satisfaction too. In the case of tuition classes, they are interested only in getting marks for you . They are not bothered whether you by heart or understood the concept. It''s a waste of time.

Pragya RUKMINI DEVI PUB. SCHOOL(PITAMPURA)

Tutions are basically self studying and pre reading of chapters. As we are always adviced that revise the chapters everyday and read the chapters before the teacher teaches the chapter for better understanding, that is exactly what done in tutions. It is not neccesary that if we do not opt for tution classes we will not pass with flying colours rather we do the same at home and also for better understanding refer to the internet or reference books

Pragyamita Basu B.D.M. International

Tuition classes are not at all better than self studies.Even if a student attends tuition classes regularly but does not keeps time for self studying then attending tuition classes would be in vain.

Nishi Upadhyay BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

I don''t think tuitions can make you do better at school. It sometimes becomes a burden on children.

A.Shajitha Fathima Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

Tuition is just a think to make you complete in the knowledge level for that particular year. But if you make yourself complete, then it definitely lead you to a good level in life.

Hiya Kilam global indian internatonal school

Taking help from another teacher for studies or not is a personal choice. Usually, the students who cannot work independently take tuition classes as a blessing while others do not. According to me, students should work on their own instead of taking help from someone apart from school teachers since it is a good habit. Attending tuition classes kills this habit as the teachers dictate them answers and solve the questions for them.

R.Varsha Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

In my point of view ,tuitions are mere waste of time. They are really time observers and give extra stress to the students . They even don''t provide healthy atmosphere.

S M PRITHYANKA THE HINDU SR. SEC. SCHL VI/

actually she is right

Anusha Dhar RUKMINI DEVI PUB. SCHOOL(PITAMPURA)

I wouldn''t agree to tutions at all. Teachers are present in the school for this purpose only. To clarify the doubts of students... If your teacher isn''t teaching you properly or you aren''t able to adapt with her/his style of teaching then you should inform her/him at least before blindly paying extra for more classes and homework... If the teacher still cant cope with you then it may be time to think about tutions, otherwise its just a waste of pure money, time, and energy.

Avantika Raina DAV Sr.Sec.Public School

If you have the caliber, you can do anything. You can succeed in any subject without tuitions also, if you do hard work and analyze everything properly. According to me, the system of tutions should be abolished as students won''t realize their ability until they practice the problem on their own.

vaibhav City Montessori School

It all depends on the perspective .IN my opinion ,tuitions can help a lot.many students can share their problems easily which they are hesitant to do in schools due to the fear of being teased by their classmates for being so dull..moreover my schools have a large class strength that disables teachers to give special attention to each of the student.due to overcrowding students get weakened ,on the other hand students can easily discuss their issues with their tutors .

Jessica Kabuli CARMEL CONVENT SCH SEC 9 CHD

It''s great to hear everyone''s views on such a highly debatable topic. For all those who do not concur to my views I strongly feel that you have not attended or joined any classes so far hence your criticism for the topic. If you can do well without tutions you are a child prodigy but for those who are intelligent but need a bit of polishing go for tuitions.

Akash Rao DR. SHAMRAO KALMADI SCHOOL

I do partially agree that tuitions do not fully aid knowledge-based learning.Today''s world has witnessed the fierce competitive atmosphere prevailing everywhere wherein parents send their children to numerous tuitions for securing better grades. Though this might help the students for improving their academic performance, but in the longer run the learning process also gets hampered as mentioned in other posts.

M.kesavapriya Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

it is not necessary to go to the tuition. if a child cant read at home which is a pleasant place how can it go to tuition and read. don''t force a child to go to tuition if they wants a tuition they will ask you

Yashita Nagpal BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

Tuitions hold no importance if a child is readily interested in studying and also if the teacher is master in his/her subject to answer student''s queries and make them understand the concepts clearly
