Himanshi Dhawan's Open Letter To Earthling

Hey Earthling,
How are you? Hope you are doing great.
I want to ask you a very important question. Ever wondered what would happen if there were no trees at all?
We as responsible children must remember that it is in our hands to protect and preserve our planet. As we think of protecting our planet, the simplest step to start off with is by planting a sapling. However, our duty does not end there. We must nurture that little seed, protect it for all the years to come and see it grow into a big tree. As we look around and marvel at the variety of wonderful trees – magnificent old, tall oaks to small ones, exquisite flowering plants; we must remember that trees have functions well beyond embellishing the surroundings.
Trees provide food and a home sweet home for fauna. They provide cool resting places from the scorching heat for birds and wildlife as well as for us. Backyard trees are a joy to climb and play with. But there is more to say. How can we forget that they are our principal supplier of oxygen? Tree roots prevent soil erosion and bring up soil nutrients. The leaves and needles provide much to enrich the soil around the trees. Trees also act as noise barriers, carbon sinks, windbreaks and can also prevent houses during bad weather conditions. They soak up excess water during the rainy season and help solve drainage problems. All in all, trees are important to us as individuals and as a planet on whole. Thus, it is prime duty to protect them because without trees, this planet will be just a big dry planet with no life. So, remember that the threat is not only to the world, but to your house, to your family/ peers, to your relatives and last but not the least to you. At last, remember: - “Harmony with nature is the demand of today’s world. Preservation of Mother Nature is of paramount importance”
Yours,
Himanshi Dhawan

Such a great article Himanshi! Nowadays trees are cut down for our own uses and don''t even think about the nature. As you have mentioned in the article "Home sweet home for fauna" is such a great thing that we have to think upon. People don''t care about the nature and go on destroying it even tough they know its going to affect them. Students can use notebooks made from recycled pulp and Bagasse. We have to use stuff which are at least 75% Eco-friendly.

It is a very good question. Today a lots of trees are being cut down and no new trees are planted instead of them. It us a very big problem in our country.

Every place is full of pollution and if enough number of trees were there in our country this problem would not exceed this much. Soil erosion process is going faster than before just because trees are being cut off. Trees hold the soil firmly to the ground. A level of oxygen is becoming less and carbon dioxide''s level is going up everyday.
