Dhanvi Shah: My Most Precious Possession

I  have many precious possessions that occupy a special place in my cupboard. The most priceless of them are the books given by my maternal uncle. They are reminiscences of the glorious days I spent with him – he is no more now. From Cinderella to Puss in Boots, the Famous Five series to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I spent my childhood engrossed in these literary gems. These books have instilled in me the love for reading. They are special because they have been  gifted to me by a man who epitomised generosity and kindness. My uncle also gifted me numerous Encyclopaedias. Each book holds a special place in my memory as my uncle always wrote a personalised note on each of them. He not just wanted me to read books but ‘experience’ them. Therefore, the morals of Aesop’s fables were taken very seriously by me. Everything you read fills your head with new bits of information, and you never know when it might come in handy. The more knowledge you have, the better equipped you are to tackle any challenge you will face in life. It has cemented my belief that books soothe our soul. Whenever I am lonely I take solace in the poems of William Wordsworth or LorByron.

Books are certainly a treasure in my life. They give us knowledge and make us feel better. While reading books one dives into some other world altogether and that is what makes books so special.
