Avi Mandavia: Live For Yourself, Not For Others

When you want to say  something,
Be yourself,

Want to get on the dance floor,
Be yourself

Whether you are in front of sophisticated ones,
Be yourself

Want to share your dislikes or express likes
Be yourself.

This is the time when most of India’s young people curb their  feelings and become puppets in the hands of others. They think too much about what the world will say if they act or remain inactive. But they often miss out on the fact that they should live for themselves, not for others. I really admire people who are outspoken and bold and listen to their hearts, not minds. Such people are pure and transparent. They are the ones who live moments to the fullest, emptying their mind from all negativity and unsavoury comments. If you keep worrying about what others think, you won't cherish your priceless moments and will be reluctant to even ponder about the thoughts in your mind. Why care about others at all? And why do you have to like Justin Bieber even if you don't, just to match up to the likes of your friends. You mask yourself. Why do you eat in moderation in front of your friends justbecause you are afraid of getting teased. Why do you have to praise someone just because you want maintain a relationship? Be the Monisha from Sarabhai, be the Phoebe from ‘Friends’!
Throw out the masks and just be yourself!

A powerful article! I think my mind and heart was waiting to read such a wonderful article. You are very true. At times even I don''t be myself. I consider others. But now I''ll be polite and I''ll be the real me. I''ll make attempts to do so. Well written Avi!

I have seen many people copying somebody else....they must realize that when they grow up, they will have to live their life and not someone other''s

I really do agree with you. I think that most people do live for others. For instance, some children are forced by their parents to take up only their parents ambition. Some parents don''t allow their children to fill their lives with colours. Not only this, but also children getting a feeling that they would be teased by their friends, as you mentioned.I believe in the saying- "life is our choice. We are the ones who choose our desires".
