Master Mathematics With These Tips

Mathematics is an interesting subject. It sharpens the reasoning power of students and increases their mental alertness. Students find it interesting but they feel nervous and jittery when time is round the corner. This also happens to bright and intelligent students. Here are some points that can help the students fetch good marks without being anxious. To prepare for your board exams, act smartly. Make sure that you start with the topics which are comparatively easier / shorter and have a good weightage in the finals.

While preparing, also keep the following points in mind:
  1. Practice NCERT & Exemplar exercises and solved examples thoroughly.
  2. Time management is of utmost importance. Try to solve previous years’ CBSE board papers, practice papers and mock papers, each within three hours, as it will help you manage time during the examination.
  3. Don’t panic if you commit mistakes during the preparation phase. This will help you identify your weak areas so that you may not repeat them on the day of examination.
  4. If facing difficulty in solving problems of a particular topic, give it a thorough revision.
  5. While revising the subject, practice writing. This would be an actual simulation of the examination itself. Plan your revision and complete it in time. This will give you a sense of achievement and build your confidence.
  6. If there are any doubts, clear them with your teacher as soon as possible.
  7. Make a sheet of important concepts/formulae and paste it near your study table for continuous revision. Make sure you know these formulae and more importantly how to use them.
  8. Take breaks in between preparations so that your body and mind can relax.
  9. Use the breaks in healthy conversation between you and your family and avoid long and useless conversations with friends on phone etc.
  10. Follow a fixed schedule. Sleep on time and wake up early. Take at least 5 – 6 hours of sleep daily.
  11. Hard work is the only key to success. You cannot reach the top without climbing all the steps of the ladder.
Now, while attempting the exam, keep the following points in mind:
  1. Keep positive attitude and confidence while appearing for the examination.
  2. Review all the formulae and important topics early in the morning.
  3. Reach the examination centre at least an hour before the exam to make yourself comfortable with the environment.
  4. Fifteen minutes extra time is given by CBSE to read the paper, take full advantage of it and read all the questions carefully. Don't start solving any question in this time.
  5. While you read the question paper put a tick mark on the questions that strike you at once, do these questions first.
  6. Don't waste too much time if you are unable to solve a question after some steps, rather move to next question and attempt the left out parts/ steps at a later stage.
  7. In case there is misprint in a question, try to attempt it as you will get full marks only if you do so.
  8. Use a sharp pencil to draw figures and write scale and units in the graph papers wherever required.
  9. Be neat in presentation. Do not make unnecessary cuttings in the paper.
  10. Answer numbers should be large in size and clearly visible.
  11. Write the formulae wherever required.
  12. Do the rough work for the questions on the same page  by drawing the column for rough work on the right side of the page.
  13. After attempting a question, always tick that question in the question paper to avoid re-attemot.
  14. Revise the paper before submission.
