Keep Your Mind Stress-Free!

We all know the importance of hitting the gym every day by now. Physical health is essential, vital, and a matter of life and death. But, how many of us know that our minds needs exercising too? Even if you do know, it is highly unlikely that you are able to do so amid deadlines, social media and pressures of work and civilization. However, unlike your body, your mind will only take five minutes of yours to refresh itself every day. Following are the five steps that you need to do every day like ritual so as to keep your mind stress-free.

Step 1: Recognize your emotion
How are you feeling right now? Jittery, anxious, meh, happy, overwhelmed, sad, angry, irritated, joyful or blessed? Studies tell that the first step in coping with yourself is to recognize the emotion and label it. This will begin the process of emotional cleaning.

Step 2: Deep breathe
Old but effective, this step never goes out of fashion. Do belly breathing while inhaling and exhaling deeply against counts of five. Do this for at least 30 seconds. Don't forget to relax your shoulders. This is the quickest way known to humankind to relax the mind.

Step 3: Write down and tear it off
Whatever thoughts are holding your head tight, writing down what you are feeling will help you solidify your thoughts and hence, process them better. Journaling helps calm your brain's emotional center. Now, the most significant part would be the release of those emotions by tearing off the paper. Rip the paper apart and just fly away the pieces. (Well, collect and throw them in the bin five minutes later.)

Step 4: Challenge yourself
Challenge yourself to do something that can significantly change the way you are feeling right now. Let's say, you can challenge yourself to draw something by hand. Or, you can challenge yourself to think of a piece of advice you would give to a friend who is facing what you are facing right now. Or, challenge yourself to message and appreciate someone today. Do something different that will make you feel better.

Step 5: Bring in compassion
Now, shift your focus from yourself to another and how you can help them. By doing so, you are moving away from narcissism. Studies tell that doing so helps one in being happier.
