Boost A Struggling Immune System

With the weather playing havoc, your immunity naturally takes a toll. More or often than not, it gives in and we end catching fever or being down by the flu. However, there are things you can do about it, rather than just lamenting about your weak immunity. So while many of these changes are easy to integrate into your daily life, it's still important to consider your immune system struggles with your overall healthcare. Here are a few ways to boost a struggling immune system.

Exercise
We all know that exercise can be good for health. While you may not want to do one certain type of exercise you can always choose another. But when it comes to improving your immune system, there are certain types of resistance and strength training exercises that you'll need to opt for. Find some light exercises that you can opt for and try them out.

Magnesium
"Magnesium contributes to many reactions in the body, including keeping the immune system strong and supporting cardiac and brain function," says a specialist. Magnesium is usually found in dark leafy greens and can prove to be quite beneficial for the immune system.

Water
Earlier it was deemed that a person needed to drink at least eight glasses of water every day to stay healthy. But with changing times and the level of physical activity and stress, water intake can differ from person to person. So, ensure that you're drinking the right amount of water and remember drinking a little extra will never hurt you.

Probiotics
If you didn’t already know this, we’re spelling it out again. The immune system is affected by the things we consume. So, make sure you eat what you need to benefit your gut health is one good way to boost your immune system if it's struggling. Include probiotics, prebiotics and fiber in your diet to support your gut’s health. However, not to add any medicines or supplements to your diet without consulting your doctor, so make sure your doctor is on board with these changes.

Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep ensures you are well rested and stress free. One of the ways to ensure you get a good night’s sleep is by practicing good sleep hygiene. This means, not watching TV or eating in bed, and keeping your bedroom cooler and screen-free at night.

Zinc
Zinc is an important mineral for normal development and function of the cells that contribute to our immune system. It can be found in meat and shellfish, seeds and dairy. However, you don't need to go and buy zinc supplements, but eating foods with a bit more naturally-occurring zinc may help.

Vitamin D
A vitamin D deficiency could be the culprit behind a struggling immune system. If you have been diagnosed with low levels of vitamin D, it needs to be addressed. Exposing yourself to sunlight, eating nutrient rich food and taking supplements are a few ways you can work on it.
