With the fashion industry booming in India and abroad, there has been a rapidly growing demand for fashion journalists who can review and report on the latest trends in the industry.

Several institutes offer courses in fashion journalism for those who are interested in both the areas - fashion and writing.
 
In the course of Fashion Journalism you will study about the history of costumes and theories of communication; textile appreciation and trend/feature writing; the role of marketing and strategies of newspapers/ magazines.
 
You will also learn about fashion styling and fashion photography, so as to keep the horizons open in the field. If you love fashion and possess the ability to tell a story in words or images, then a career in fashion journalism will be apt for you. With a career in fashion journalism, you can take many forms, including writing, photojournalism, and social media.
 
After pursuing a degree in Fashion Journalism you can become:
Fashion writer
As a fashion journalist, you will have to report on the latest fashion trends. Your sole job will include writing articles, blogs, copy for media outlets. Your work is likely to be published in magazines, newspapers, websites, social media channels, blogs, or broadcast on television.
 
Once you are a fashion journalist, you may work at a publication or fashion firm, or can even be self-employed and submit articles on a freelance basis. You can report in a traditional factual manner, or interject your personality in a piece with an editorial bent.
 
Fashion editor
A fashion editor's role is to oversee content development for an entire department. This content may include articles, online media, photo shoots, television programming, or video production. As a fashion editor, you will have to ensure that any piece of content is accurate and well-presented. Your other responsibilities may include- story ideas, layouts, and prioritization of pieces.
You can specialize in a different sector- couture, makeup, or accessories. Communicating with designers, trend-setters, stylists, buyers, and publicists will help you to stay ahead of trends, and therefore be relevant and influential.
