Visalakshi S's Poem 'The Stethoscope- A Girl Child's Dream'

Something hung around the neck of the doctor,

as he analyzed my father's fracture.

They said it is called a stethoscope

and could awaken in patients a new hope.

In our family women didn't get education but,

'becoming a doctor' was my ambition.

That day the stethoscope caught my sight,

My dream shone like a fairy tale, so bright,

I did my best to get good marks,

and reduced the time I spent in parks,

Any obstacle on my way will definitely be cleared out today.

Becoming a doctor became my passion ,

I completed MBBS despite family oppression

In scholarship I earned a seat for MD,

later I opened a clinic and treated everybody.

A chain adorned my mothers neck,

But on my neck is a stethoscope hi-tech.

There is no girl who is not capable.

Achieving your dreams may seem like a fable,

Have trust and faith in yourself,

New credits begin filling your shelf,

Only in you boldness and courage dwell,

You are a success,

if you break open the stereotype shell
