Scrat-Packed Ice Age Once Again

Ice Age is an animated movie milestone and has been close to its’ viewers hearts since 2002. A commercially and critically successful multi-billion dollar franchise, Ice Age has a huge international fan base. Produced by Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox, it is the comic brain child of Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldanha. With the fifth edition to the movie series, Collision Course release this week, we look back to the adorable collection of films with heart rapturing characters. Ice Age is famous for its’ voice actors which are Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Chris Wedge, Queen Latifah and Jennifer Lopez.

The movies feature amazing chemistry between the three main characters, a wooly  mammoth (Manny) voiced by Romano, a saber-toothed tiger (Diego) voiced by Leary and a charming  giant sloth (Sid) voiced by Leguizamo.

Here is a look back at the saga of these beloved animated mammals surviving Paleolithic Ice Age.

The first film Ice Age (2002) introduces us to the talkative Sid who is left behind. He meets Manny, the mammoth and they together rescue a human baby and set for searching the baby’s father. They are later helped by Diego. The first film received widely positive reviews and was loved by the viewers.

The next film was Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006) in which we discover Manny, Sid, and Diego currently living in a valley which is surrounded by an enormously high ice wall which they discover is holding a massive body of water. This could flood the valley so they try to rescue themselves in three days. Manny meets Ellie during this journey and overcomes the fear of being the last surviving Mammoth.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009) explores Manny and Ellie as expecting parentswhereas Sid gets a tad bit jealous. He steals Dinosaur eggs and thus unfurls a huge underground fiasco. The movie was released in 3D and received favorable reviews.

The next sequel was Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) which was the first film without Saldanha and introduced several new actors such as Peter Dinklage, Jennifer Lopez and Wanda Sykes. The film takes place few years later with Peaches in her teenage years and as usual Scrat’s never ending pursuit of his prized acorns. Encountering band of pirates and Captain Gutt, Manny, Sid and Diego pursue a new adventure in this second 3D film.

So don’t forget to catch the new sequel Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) in theaters this week. It revives the fun among its’ beloved characters and takes on a new adventure, with Scrat’s elusive acorn and a cosmic muddle of events!

 What students say

I like the sabertooth tiger Diego, because he transforms to good from evil, which is educative. He doesn’t harm Roshan, Manny and his friends, instead fights for them as Manny saves his life.. His attitude is awesome. He is brave and he knows how to give a good blow. He gets confused sometimes when taking decisions but, whatever happens, he comes to the right path. He is somewhat sarcastic but it makes much more interesting to watch him. In the next edition of the movie which I waiting for anxiously, I think Sid and Manny will hog most of the limelight. The ending should be spectacular. After all, happy ending is a 'happy' ending!

My favourite Ice Age characters are actually the two opossums with the pink nose, Crash and Eddie. They always diffuse a tense situation with a funny moment and there are lots of those throughout the movie. I love the comic relief that these guys bring.
Yes I am really looking forward to the next edition of the film. All the previous four Ice Age movies have been just awesome and this one I am sure will not be any different.

Scrat, the saber-toothed squirrel is one of my favourites. He has this interesting sense of humour, due to his expressions even during calamities. I found him to be my inspiration as well because of his determined attitude towards getting the nut. I truly am looking forward to a Scrat-packed Ice Age once again.

I love Sid because of his allegiance and also his stupidity. He warmly cares for those he adores and with honesty, a trait rare to be found. He understands desertion and hence takes Roshan, the human child into his care. Looking after his hunger, his cleanliness and guarding him all through, Sid ensures Roshan is never left unattended. Secondly his loyalty towards Manny and the rest is amazing. Inspite of his pranks and foolishness, he draws back the same feelings from the other members of the group. Incredible is when Manny agrees to his relationship for Ellie and the way he shifts his attention on her for good.

"Hey could you chew this for me?" Probably the most iconic line from ice age despite it coming from one of the franchise's newest characters. Sid's granny, downright the funniest, most imaginative and 'precious' part of Ice Age 4. If this character wasn't lovable enough let me bring two more words into the picture- Wanda Sykes. As always she does justice to every goofy, humorous and ridiculous aspect of the character, in fact their resemblance is quite uncanny!

My favorite character is Ellie, the mammoth. Ellie is independent and strong. She is clever and witty and knows how to adapt to different situations. She is very friendly, caring and stubborn as shown in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs where she is firm on her decision on saving Sid.

Yes, I am very much looking forward to Ice Age: Collision Course as Ice Age is one of my favorite series. I loved the trailer and I am very eager and enthusiastic to watch the movie.

My favorite character is Peache's best friend - Louis a soft spoken, timid and cute hedgehog, who is always by her side and eager to help her even if it is to help her get closer to Ethan. He is an epitome of friendship which makes him my favourite. Undoubtedly, I am excited to see what the makers have come up with in the latest Ice Age.

Rushali Lekhi, Class XII,

My favorite Ice Age character is Scrat because he is a prehistoric squirrel whose sole purpose in life is to bury an elusive nut, which always triggers calamitous events.
