Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School, Aundh-Baner organised the third edition of Sankalp - The Career Canvas, for the students of classes VII to X who are at the crossroads of choosing a career after completing their school education. Their parents were also invited.
The aim was to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to make the right decisions to choose their career. The panel consisted of professionals from different walks of life who have converted their passion to profession.
The panel expert, Dr. Awanti Golwilkar, chief of laboratory at AG Diagnostics, Pune stressed on the importance of parents understanding the uniqueness of their child's interests and supporting them to find their own career path.
Guest speaker, Ketaki Latkar, a freelance journalist, shared stories about her journey and briefed students about the various career opportunities available to them in the field of languages.
The two panel experts who chose unconventional careers for themselves were Aseem Dhaneshwar, a freelance sound engineer and Rohit Kulkarni, co-founder of the pottery workshop 'Curators of Clay' near Pune. Aseem threw light on different aspects of sound engineering like mixing sounds, live sounds, sounds in movies, synchronisation of sounds and movements, projection of voice and much more. Rohit shared his journey of giving up his lucrative career in media and pursuing his dream of being a potter. He spoke about values like hard work, art of learning and exploring opportunities.
In the interactive session that followed, the guests answered plenty of queries, from the technicalities of work fields to the career prospects available. The experts emphasised that students must listen to their hearts, ignore the societal pressure, take time to take decisions, follow their instincts and change their decisions if required.
The programme concluded with a message for the students to choose a path which will lead them to happiness; and for parents, to support their children wholeheartedly.
