Anushka Throws Light On Gender Inequality

While most of the celebs like to live in denial or just make peace with the fact that there is gender inequality in Bollywood, Anushka Sharma likes to give everyone frequent reality checks. Anushka Sharma admits to the fact that when it comes to male actors, the industry is indifferent in ways more than one. She also thinks that when it comes to accolades or criticism, male actors enjoy the perks of receiving it in extreme.

Talking about Ranbir Kapoor’s Bombay Velvet debacle, Anushka said, “The hugs were longer than usual. It was as if they were offering condolences.” Throwing light on how the whole incident was unfair, she said, "What happened to him was unfair. He is one of the best actors we have today. But it's also because Bombay Velvet was Johnny's film more than Rosie's. I would have been held solely responsible if NH10 had flopped, not because I produced it, but because the film was riding on my shoulders. But, he continues to be targeted also because of other films he did. I was relatively less affected because I had successful films before and after Bombay Velvet."

She went on to talk in detail about how the scenarios differ. She said, "Films led by female actors do not open to remarkable numbers. A lot of us are trying to change that with the kind of work we do. Who said that the industry was fair? Talking of the gender divide won't make it go away. Male actors are better valued than us in Hindi cinema. As an actor, what I can do is choose roles that send out a message. As producer, I am trying to foster a new value system that makes content king in the long run."

That''s right. Not only in Bollywood but in the Indian films we could see a difference between both.

I totally agree with Hemalatha, gender discriminations not only happen in Bollywood but also in Hollywood and many other filming industries.
