8 Animal-themed Villains We Love

From the octopus face of Davy Jones to the prehensile tongue of Toad, beastly features of animals have horrified movie goers. So whom do you love to hate?

1. Davy Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean series

He is one character from the Pirates of the Caribbean series that both mesmerises and scares you in every scene. His whole appearance is so fascinating. Davy Jones’ most striking feature is his cephalopod (kind of marine animal)-like head with octopus-like tentacles forming a thick beard. Jones is the captain of the Flying Dutchman. His original purpose was to carry souls of those who died at sea from this world to the next on his ship. But with Jones and his crew breaking their oath to ferry lost souls, a curse transformed them into sea monsters.

2. Sabretooth, X-Men

Sabretooth is a vicious assassin and the arch-enemy of Wolverine. He has superhuman strength, the power to heal rapidly, and razor-sharp fangs and claws combined with amazing senses. While Wolverine tries to suppress his savage nature, Sabretooth does the opposite and embraces it. He shows no mercy.

3. Dracula

Bram Stoker’s version of Dracula is a timeless monster — elegant, brooding, and with a thirst for human blood. Dracula is a villain who has fascinated generations and undergone transformation over a period of time. Stories pertaining to him are gripping and involve the elements of myth, legend, drama, horror and romance.

4. Viper, the wolverine

Greedy, survivalist and treacherous... these are the characteristics that amply describe Viper, also known as Madame Hydra. Toxic to the core, Viper is excellent at using people before terminating them. She is a brilliant strategist and tactician with extensive combat experience. It’s hard to say if Viper is more snake or human. She has speed, strength, reflexes and endurance of the order of an Olympic athlete. And not to forget the deadly venom she spits from her mouth. Svetlana Khodchenkova played the character of Viper to perfection. She gave a really tough time to Wolverine.

5. The Lizard, Spider-Man

During an experiment Dr Curtis Connors accidentally transforms into a violent lizard monster who seeks to turn humans into lizards like himself. It is ironic that the lizard’s alter ego, Dr Curtis Connors is a former teacher of Spidey’s alter ego Peter Parker. He is one of the formidable foes of Spider-Man.

6. Penguin, Batman

The Penguin is one of Batman’s oldest and most persistent enemies. He is a short, rotund man with a beak-like nose, fetish for birds and his specialised high-tech umbrellas. Intelligent, rich and sophisticated; he puts up a gentlemanly front, but behind closed doors he is a power-hungry criminal. He was bullied as a child for his physical deformities and his horrible past turned him into a bitter and ruthless psychopath.

- Ankit Sharma, class XII, Aster Public School, Greater Noida

7. Killer croc, Batman

Killer croc is the old nemesis of Batman. He has low intelligence but great strength, as well as crocodilian abilities, such as a keen sense of smell and the ability to hold his breath underwater for long periods of time. He is as deadly a villain as any.

Sara Abraham, teacher, Franks School, Bangalore

8. Toad, X Men

This one is a super villain and formerly a member of Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, antagonists to the X-Men. His leaping ability, toxic saliva, prehensile tongue and wall-scaling abilities made him a formidable match to X-Men. Though he also has several weaknesses — he is near-sighted and has an aversion to light — he often wears goggles that allow him to operate in strong daylight.

Deepanshi Dhiman, class XII, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh
