What’s the best way to get a kid to read?

This barbershop is probably the answer

A barbershop in the United States is giving discounts to children who read books to their barber while getting their hair cut

Fill the shelves in her (or his) cupboard with colourful books, and hope that someday, her curiosity will get the better of her? Make her write book reviews in exchange for trips to the ice cream shop? Now, what if we told you that you could get your local barbershop or hairdresser’s to help you out?

You heard that right. In fact, in a barbershop in the US State of Michigan, children improve their literacy skills while getting a hair cut. ‘The Fuller Cut’ offers children haircuts at a $2 discount, if they read a book out loud to their barber, the US’ National Public Radio reported earlier this week. And don’t think the children can pretend to read while letting their minds wander.

According to the report, the barbers ask their young customers questions to test whether they’ve grasped what they’ve been reading! And since many of the children who get their haircut at the shop are black, The Fuller Cut has several books with black protagonists, the report added.  tnn

IF such procedures come to India, it will be great because children will get to read many books and have a great time. But the thing is that now-a-days, the people who work in parlors are more interested in talking things like, " Hey! You know my son''s school has implemented a new policy...." or " Do you know what''s the new fashion, ma''am"? Most people will only act when a law is made regarding this new reading technique.
