What Chick-Lit Books Can Teach You

Think chick-lit and the common consensus people arrive at is that they are "girly" books.

What's in a name?
The word chic-lit has been associated with seemingly silly, frivolous and mostly light read versions of literature for quite a while now.

But there is a catch, and in this, case a good one!
While chick lit books might follow a general theme of an unhappy girl finding love and everything becoming fine again, you can actually end up learning a lot from the stories. While they might not win any prizes for literature, you've got to admit that they make the best companions when you want a short and easy read for a weekend.

Here are five life lessons we've learned from reading the books.

Sometimes It's Okay To Walk Away
Yes, you have to work hard to make life work, but sometimes it's okay to stop trying and simply walk away. Remember Andrea Sachs from Devil Wears Prada? If she didn't have the guts to walk out of that horrible job, she would never end up with her very own wedding magazine.

Life Always Gives You A Second Chance
No matter how hard it seems right now, you can rely on life to give you a second change. Right when Rebecca Bloomwood decided that life would never change for her, she got the golden opportunity that turned her life around. All you need to do is be open to change.

Things Might Not Always Work As Per Plan, But You've Got To Keep Trying
Bridget Jones is the perfect example of taking a bad situation and working it to her advantage. No matter what life throws at you, you just need a good attitude, a handful of friends and some alcohol to sail through.

Social Media Is Not Real Life
We know this, but at times it's hard to differentiate between the real and online world. The perfect example of how you should avoid believing everything you read online is Katie Brenner from 'My Not So Perfect Life'. While her Instagram feed rocks, she's just lost a job, has no money for rent and the city life that she pretends to love is actually quite a big sham.

Love Yourself Before You Love Anyone Else
Jemima J by Jane Green is a story about Jemima Jones, an overweight columnist who struggles with body image issues. This book is the perfect read for everyone who thinks that simply losing a couple of kilos, or changing your hair, or revamping your wardrobe can make your life better. At the end of the day, you need to start loving yourself before you can expect good things to come your way.
