Weekend Wow: Turtles All The Way...

A missing billionaire and a teen’s anxious mind
After a five year hiatus, author John Green returns to young adult fiction with ‘Turtles All The Way Down.’ The novel centres around 16-year-old Aza and her decision to search for a missing person while dealing with her own anxious mind

More details:

Solving the mystery of disappearance is merely a side plot. The book is essentially about Aza navigating through all the usual teenage experiences: self-discovery, first love, managing friendships, and dealing with parents.

‘Turtles...’ offers us a unique perspective as the protagonist’s point of view is quite different and detailed. Aza suffers from an anxiety disorder for which she is being treated. She is constantly worried about how exposure to germs affects her personal microbiome.

Aza is not sure if she is fictional or real, and her arguments with herself or her therapist about whether there is a true self beyond all the circumstances that define us, are thought provoking. John Green has a way of articulating complex emotions in simple words that connect with us deeply.

Green has also been a patient of clinical anxiety and Aza’s story provides great insight into a problem which is largely underrated as an ailment.

Q: Tell us your favourite work by John Green! Plus are his Vlogs really worth the hype?
