Vanshika reviews: Nemesis by Agatha Christie

Agatha Christie is better known as Queen of Crime.
The word Nemesis means "A long standing rival." The description about the naming of this novel is not clearly given.

Enter Ms. Marple
The protagonist of the novel is Agatha Christie's famous old lady character, Ms. Marple. An old, sophisticated, detective mind with a built-in capability of smelling an evil. The protagonist has an intelligent, out of box approach and is a quite polite, practical person.

The Plot
The story revolves around Ms. Marple's acquaintance, Mr. Rafiel. Ms. Marple had met him on a trip, he was a man with ill health who was probably on a vacation for his haleness. Ms. Marple and he had collaborated against a crime, and proved to be well-coordinated duo by solving the crime. Presently, Ms. Marple, who has always been keen on reading the death column, was going through it when she got to know about the unfortunate death of Mr. Rafiel. The series of events thereafter commenced Marple's mysterious journey for solving an unknown murder case.

Overrall review
The author has quite nicely started the story with a vivid idea of the protagonist's personality and very intelligently , within a few chapters, created a sinister environment. Through the various letters and short notes she has been consistent in maintaining interest of the readers. She has framed the story with utmost perfection and cleverness. With the simplest adroitness, she has placed the events and evidences in an unnoticeable manner throughout thus maintaining the suspense till the end. By keeping the criminal case under a dim light, she has prodded the readers to go on through the journey, making it impossible for them to put down their book. With every page revealing a new story, she has triggered the minds of the readers to ponder over the facts and forced them to put all the pieces together. The environment of tension, mystery and suspense created by the author propels the readers to live in the scenes.

She has quite beautifully described the situation and has used a reader friendly, easy to understand vocabulary.

She has used a realistic and relatable story line. She has ended the novel with an impactful, twist-in-the-tale ending which truly has left the readers astounded. Though it has proved to be an epitome of crime/mystery, it has certain limitations. The author has put few incidents/points repeatedly which hinders the reader's interest. She has over-exaggerated certain descriptions and has involved a large number of unwanted conversations. However, over all this book holds a lot in store for the readers.
