Shelley: The Bot Who Writes

MIT researchers have created a fiction writing bot, named after Mary Shelly, author of Frankenstein.

1) The bot can generate its own stories while engaging in collaborative story-telling on twitter.

2) MIT scientists's machine is on a mission to produce its own spine-chilling tales.
3) The new fiction-writing bot was built with the use of electrodes.

4) As its first assignment, the team has given the bot a crash course in the horror genre, that allows it to read 1,40,000 stories published by amateur writers on a popular online forum.

5) Shelley's artificial neural network is producing original stories, posting opening lines on Twitter, and then taking engages in collaborative storytelling with humans on the micro blogging site.

6) A postdoctoral researcher at the MIT Media Lab Pinar Yanardag said, "She's creating really interesting and weird stories that have never really existed in the horror genre." There was one crazy tale of a pregnant man waking up in a hospital.

7) Last year Halloween, a similar project was launched to create scary images as a lab experiment. But can all this new technology actually churn out truly horrifying stories? The experiment is still in progress.

8) Popular horror writer King has said that it can take him "months and even years " to get a novel's opening paragraph right. Let's say for Shelly, it's just a matter of some seconds.

9) Shelley the bot posted on Friday, "The doll came at me with a syringe... Its blood shot out of its mouth, and it began to uncover itself. It was then that it began to dance."
