She Wrote Two Books On A Train!

Ruchita Misra, the author who made waves with 'The (In)eligible Bachelors' and 'I Do! Do I?' is back with another romance 'Someone to Love'. The book traces the tortuous journey of childhood sweethearts and the upheavals and catharsis they face in life. The author, who was recently in India, spoke to us about her book, her style of writing and on why she loves writing on relationships.

Q) How difficult it is to pen a book with a career. What are the challenges one has to face?
It is all about your commitment and your ability to manage time. I wrote 'Second Chance at Love' during my pregnancy, submitting the final draft before I went into labour. I have written two books entirely in London Tube!

Q) From the thinking of an idea to penning it down to the entire publishing and marketing process, which is the most demanding one?
The easiest part is writing and the most difficult one is publicity.

Q) Marriage forms the centre of all your plots. Do you think it holds such an important place in life today?

Not marriage but relationships form the centre of my plots. And I think they hold a very important place for all of us, more so in this day and age when problems like anxiety and depression are omnipresent. I strongly believe that if you have even one fulfilling relationship, you will lead a healthier, longer life.

Q) Your female protagonist in 'Someone to Love' is a successful career woman working in London. Is this book slightly autobiographical?

The similarities end with the location. I have started feeling increasingly responsible for the messages (said and unsaid) that my books give. I make conscious attempts to make my female characters strong, even if they are flawed. There is a point when Koyal is moneyless and jobless and then she turns her life around. My message to readers is that with courage they can do anything.

Yeah. I do agree that our female characters are growing stronger day by day. What better example than the wonderful Katniss Everdeen of ''The Hunger Games''. It is she who has taught me to sacrifice and stay strong even in the direst of situations. The main aim of books is to give pleasure, relaxation and instill some values in the readers. And it is heartwarming that the books these days, by encouraging female protagonists bring women into limelight in an otherwise male chauvinistic society.

I truly believe that female characters are growing stronger day by day. The best example of female characters growing stronger day by day is the very lovely ''Hermione Granger''. She has taught me that books are our world and without books you cannot live and she has also taught me that if you pay attention you can excel with flying colours. She is truly an incredible character. I love the way she acted in the Harry Potter series. She was the perfect ''Belle''.
