Read It Before You See It

It's Time To Read Agatha Christie's 'Murder On The Orient Express' Yet Again, Thanks To The New Movie's Trailer

I read Agatha Christie's ‘Murder On The Orient Express' back when I was 10 years old. I was lying on my bed while reading it. Post the murder, I was constantly sitting up with my head buried as close as possible to the words on the pages of the book. What changed? Everything! It's one of the most revered murder mysteries in the history of fiction. There is a reason why Christie was one of the most respected authors of and beyond her time. She wrote with the sole intent to have you sitting on the edge of your seats, always.

And while each of her books have a stellar way of wrapping the reader's whole being in a world created by the author, ‘Murder On The Orient Express' was so clever, it's refreshing every single time you read it!

The First Adaptation
When the first movie based the book came to be, back in 1974, directed by Sidney Lumet—starring the likes of Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Richard Widmark, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Vanessa Redgrave, Michael York, Jacqueline Bisset and Anthony Perkins; with Albert Finney playing the role of the legendary French detective Hercule Poirot—it was one of the most obvious choices for everyone. People flocked to theatres and watched the movie, irrespective of whether or not they had read the book. It was incredible with brilliant performances to boot.

And 43 years later, everything remains true—about that book; about that movie. Which is why, I'm not all that surprised that Hollywood decided to give it a remake in this day and age. In fact, if anything, I'm a little thrilled about it. As it is, we aren't all that much of a reading generation in the 21st century. Remaking this movie from a classic book, written by one of the brightest authors the world has ever seen and read, today, for the world to experience the drama, thrill and suspense that comes as customary with every Agatha Christie work, is just what we all need!

The trailer starts with an ominous sense to the entire setting; you see Johnny Depp looking dashing as ever, Judie Dench looking the part of royalty, Michelle Pfeifer looking like she could still play a mean Catwoman and Willem Dafoe is enigmatic as ever. The cast is perfect, for every role in the book. The setting is as if it was taken straight out of Agatha Christie's own subconscious, itself. In short, there could not be a better remake with a more stellar cast. See for yourself:

The movie is set to release on 03rd and 10th November, 2017, in the UK and US, respectively. If you haven't read the detective classic, which was originally published back in 1934, it's time to pick it up and read up because this is going to be one movie that will be difficult to keep up with if you don't really know what to look for. And the fact that the veteran star cast is one of the best looking ones Hollywood has seen in a very long time isn't going to help with the distraction.

Those of you who are already Christie fans, it's time to dust off the cob webs and get back to it, for nostalgia and rekindling one of the biggest whodunits in the history of whodunits!

Q: Not a fan? Tell us an Agatha Christie classic that also deserves a movie adaptation!
