It was touted to the most anticipated moment for booklovers in 2016. JK Rowling’s eighth Harry Potter story has been released in bookstores across the globe. Times NIE catches all the fan action. 


The script’s global kickoff was timed to coincide with its launch at midnight in London, after the play's world premiere at the Palace Theatre. July 31 is also author JK Rowling’s birthday.

Around 15,000 fans gathered at the various Om Book Shop Outlets in Delhi NCR to witness the unveiling of the ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’. Apart from the book launch, there were contests around Harry Potter trivia, a fancy dress competition and many other activities. 

According to publishers, in India alone, there was a pre order of 1 million copies for this installment of Harry Potter. 

Hundreds of fans snaked down London’s Picadilly street waiting to get their hands on a copy, while others queued outside bookstores.

In Singapore, some fans held a prize-giving ceremony and a hunt for the Snitch - a type of ball used in the wizard sport of Quidditch in the Potter books.

In Bangkok, around 40 fans, many wielding wands and other wizarding paraphernalia, gathered outside a mall overnight.

J K Rowling is world’s 1st billionaire author according to Forbes. The Harry Potter series has sold more than 400 million copies around the world.
