Improve Your Writing Skills

Writing is an integral part of people's life; whether it includes writing a book, blog, email, project reports or even list of tasks. Most of us do it on daily basis but even then we do not consider ourselves as good or insightful writers.

When we were young, we had heard the saying 'Practice makes a man perfect' quite often but it is hard to apply the same with writing, as many times presenting our thoughts on paper can become a challenging task. So, here are some easy ways to help you improve your writing:

Write in an environment which helps you focus: Each one of us is different, some people are able to focus better in a silent environment and some like listening to music while writing. You should start writing in your favourite mood and ambience to be able to write more effectively.

Think before you start writing: The biggest challenge most of the writers face is that their thoughts are scattered. It is better to have a broad outline in your mind first, then pick up a pen and paper.

Read a lot: Good writers are also great readers. Writers learn a lot by reading. The details of writing include the ability to form phrases and transitions that exhibit expert writing skills. Most of these "details" are picked up subconsciously as you read books and news articles consistently.

Observe your surroundings: Whenever you travel, observe the ambience around you. If writing gives you a detailed picture, observation gives you a bigger and broader picture. New experiences and ways of thinking are crucial for anyone who wants to keep their momentum going.

Experiment with your writing style: Following the same way of writing bores the reader as well as the writer very soon. To keep the interest alive, experiment with your writing style. If you write only about facts then try adding people's opinion, ask questions from your readers or interview an expert.

Take a break to refuel yourself: If you feel drained then do not push yourself to write. Take a break and go on a vacation with friends. Eventually you will miss your pen and paper. For some of you, this isn't possible because you have deadlines and commitments you can't drop. For them, we recommend taking small breaks or going slow for a couple of days to gain back their momentum. lifehacker
