Guess What! A Bot Wrote A Potter Tale

Botnik is 'a community of writers, artists and developers collaborating with machines to create strange new things,' according to their website.

The website publishes funny articles that seem to be content generated by a predictive keyboard, similar to the ones all our phones have nowadays. If you've ever tried crafting a message with it, you know how garbled and funny the results can be.

The website recently published a Harry Potter story generated with the same predictive algorithm and the results were equally garbled and amusing.

The story is called "Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash" and we get to read Chapter 13: The Handsome One. The first paragraph starts well, with the first sentence taking us back to the the castle all fans are familiar with. However it quickly turns macabre with blood and shrieking, and concludes, both honesty and oddly: "Magic: it was something that Harry Potter thought was very good."

The story dissolves into nonsense in the first page, making just enough sense to be funny. By the second page the story rushes right into the action with the introduction of rather out-of-character Death Eaters.

It is safe to say content writing bots won't be replacing bestselling authors for a while yet. Still, it is entertaining to picture the famous characters behaving so and the bot fanfiction is worth a read.
