8 Reasons To Read Bond's Latest

Popular writer Ruskin Bond, a storyteller loved by children and adults alike, is coming out with a set of eight brand new stories in his latest book titled, 'Death Under The Deodars: The Adventures of Miss Ripley-Bean'. Here are 8 reasons you should not miss the experience of reading this book.

1. To start with, all the stories are completely new & fresh.
The book comes after a long break in the writer's literary career during which he did not pen any fresh content, although many of his older works were adapted and published. These 8 stories are absolutely fresh stories.

2. The popular writer who looks like an adorable Santa on most days, has written murder mysteries!
Ruskin Bond is known for creating stories
full of wit and characters so unique one doesn't forget them. His stories are so life-like, though this he has written murder and mystery, something that he hasn't done in a long time. As his die-hard fans, we know we'll be delighted with his new venture.

3. The story behind how the book came about, is seriously interesting: According to reports, Bond's publisher advised him that "old-time Mussoorie with its atmospherics and its small circle of interesting characters would make for some fabulous murder mysteries". An idea that resulted in 'Death in Deodar...'

4. We didn't know Ruskin loves mystery like us
Ruskin bond loves ' good old-fashioned murder mystery' and is an avid reader of the murder mysteries written in the Golden Age aka the works of Dorothy L Sayers, Agatha Christie, Margery Allingham, Ngaio Marsh, and Sherlock Holmes, Maigret, Nero Wolfe and the like. (Thank you Mr Bond, you have given us a great reading list)

5. You will get to experience the forgotten era of the 60s and 70s your grandparents speak about.  Plus you meet the most delightful Ms Ripley-Bean
The stories are set in the Mussoorie of the 1960s and 1970s and features the elderly Miss Ripley-Bean (a la' Miss Marple) who is along-time resident of the famous Royal Hotel. The hotel is where a series of strange things and murders happen.

6. The subject of the stories is most fantastical.
Well there is the 'deliciously sinister cases' like that of a murdered priest, a man who is born evil, a body found in a box bed and strange occurences like arsenic in the post, strychnine in the cognac, a mysterious black dog, and the Daryaganj strangler.

7. The characters are so intriguing
The elderly Miss Ripley-Bean, her Tibetan terrier Fluff, her good friend Mr Lobo, the hotel pianist, and Nandu, the owner of the Royal Hotel among others that you will only know

8. Last but not the least
We are counting on you to tell us about the book. Read the book once it is out on November 15, and then give us a proper review of a story or the entire book. The best one will of course be featured here! Isn't this a brilliant reason to absolutely read 'Death in Deodar' ?

Tell us in the comments section 8 reasons why Ruskin Bond deserves a space in every bookshelf that has ever existed.
