'I Finished The Short Story'

From The Short Story Series

We present the best of short stories that have been submitted in answer to our call for 'Can You Finish This Story?' This is day 1, and we are just getting started!

I was 12 years old, standing in the fluorescent light of my parents’ bathroom with a pair of orange coloured scissors, ready for what came next out of my mother’s womb. I had never wanted another human being in that tiny house as the human race was not being nice to me. I could never get rid of that rage and had ‘PEOPLE ARE STUPID’ painted on the side wall of my purple room. My hands were trembling as I watched the only nice human being on earth growling in pain. That wicked old woman was telling her to push but her screams became louder and louder each time she pushed. I held the scissors with murder intentions directed at that crooked lady but put it down because I couldn’t give up pizza for that petite witch. (They should actually start serving pizza in jail).

But, OH NO! My mother started screaming so loudly that I could hardly bear it.

I could only hear her screams and my Dad yelling “Dai Ma, Dai Ma, fast!” and she moved towards the ARRIVAL POINT.

I held my mother’s hand tightly and felt her squeezing it, push by push. My Dad started chanting 'Hanuman Chalisa' and I covered my eyes with my tiny hand. There came another human! My little sister, 12 years younger than me! I couldn’t wait to tell her that she was born in our bathroom. And oh, this human was really cute. I passed the orange scissors to Dai Ma to cut the empirical cord. I held that little human in my hands and cried with her next to my chest. She was the first baby I had actually seen coming out of a womb and 14 years later I saw the second one, coming out of mine.
