Who Should Be Allowed To Become A Parliamentarian?

The people in the parliament represent us and also hold the power of moulding the country's future. However, for anyone to become a parliamentarian, they have to just live up to the following eligibility criteria.

1. The person must be mentally sound

2. The person should not have a criminal record

 3. The person must be an Indian.

But are these conditions enough? In my opinion a person must be well educated and have a record of social service. Else, how can we hand over the future of our country in the hands of people who do not have a proven record? That's the reason why our politicians don’t always behave ethically? Should we not give our politics some dignity?

Of course , we must re-look the eligibility qualifications of parliamentarians. I have always felt that retired Indian army soldiers must be given privilege for occupying key positions in parliament than any other person because they are the ones who respect this country more than anybody that they had wanted to give their lives for her .

Yes. I agree with you. The person who is well educated, capable of running the government of such a diverse country and is well known to people for his good deeds should be allowed to become a parliamentarian.

With all the youth standing up and making their opinions . I strongly believe that one day we will change the future of our country by changing our politics

I myself have attended a session of parliament and I strongly agree that the above mentioned 3 eligibility criteria are not enoygh. Education and personality should be the made criteria for selection beacuse we can''t hand over the responsibility of the largest democracy of the world in the hands of the people who are not even literate.

What about education? Can we allow an illiterate fellow to run the biggest democratic government? Surely not.

Yes, we must need a better leader, who is talented in politics, well educated, who can handle the world''s largest democratic country, who is not even entered the prison in his lifetime. To find such a person we need to re-election in the parliament. And we dont need such people who is illiterate.

R.Varsha Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

The above mentioned three qualities are no way connected to a politician. A real leader is someone who is very well educated, updated and who deserves that seat. I think instead of elderly or people above 50s the young generation can rule well.

yes. i agree with you. parliament is that body who is like the brain of our India.and we can give the control centre in hands of illiterate or undeserving people.
