UNSC Reforms Need Of The Hour, Asserts Aditi. Your Take

G4 nations have pitched for a comprehensive reform of UN Security Council. What’s your take?

It’s a well-known fact that dramatic changes have ocurred in the  geopolitical dynamics of the world since the formation of the United Nations. It’s time the UN took notice of the changing demands of world politics and plans for  comprehensive reforms. Apart from G4, other organisations should also put pressure on the UN to undertake reforms.

A more comprehensive UN Security Council (UNSC) will not only ensure efficiency but also give a broader perspective to the  council.  With countries like India, Brazil and Japan emerging as world powers, UNSC should widen its horizon, involve other countries and make it more transparent.

It is imperative that reforms are initiated to cope with ever-growing global situations. Old dynamics fail to match the current realities of 21st century. So in order to deal with global issues such as terrorism, civil wars, humanitarian crisis and such other problems, we need to add new emerging powers in the decision-making process.
