Should Tradition And Culture Be Forced?

She is a noted musician and is taking forward the legacy of her father sitarist Pandit Ravi Shankar but Anoushka Shankar says one does not have to hold fast to traditions as culture is inherent. The 36-year-old musician says one has to learn to be secure about it.

In an interview with PTI, Anoushka says, "In the last few years in particular, I've found that it's okay to let go of culture rather than hold on to it. And by letting go, you kind of realise that it's there anyway.

"It is kind of in you - you've been brought up a certain way so it's there. You have to have a little confidence in your culture."

The sitarist believes if traditions are forced upon people, the greater idea of moving forward together fails.

"I think we are all individuals at the end of the day. There's nothing about culture that can prescribe who you're meant to be.

"But when culture becomes a baggage, things don't work. What is good about anything that feels like a baggage? I think we should let go when it feels like a burden. Hold on to the things you love. Then it will be a natural process." PTI

No need to force tradition and culture. Actually all culture will teach us many moral values. But if it is forced we might not consider them seriously.

I think forcing culture and religion on a person is not needed and he must cultivate a sense of liking for it which will be better

There is no need to force tradition and culture. A person should develop his interest by himself. Any culture teaches us many moral values and also its glorious past. But forcing to learn it would not gain success .

Forcing is not a solution for anything. We respect something heartily only when we are ready to do it. There is no need to force tradition and culture. A person should develop his interest by himself.

Forcing upon culture and tradition may lead to the breakdown of the existing social machinery as the youth may not be welcoming towards such enforcement creating friction between them and the previous generation, it need not be enforced also because the way we are brought up in this culturally conscious country itself suffices for inculcating the traditional values in us.

THOUGH OUR TRADITIONS AND CULTURES REFLECT OUR GLORIOUS PAST BUT EVEN THEN FORCING THEM IS NO WAY. EACH ONE HAS HIS/HER OWN BELIEVES AND THEY MIGHT PREVAIL FOR THEM.

traditions and culture should not be forced.forcing will give no outcome.one should only learn them if has a personal liking towards it.forcing will create a generation gap which will develop friction between two generations.tradition and culture teaches us moral values but forcing will not give success

Culture and traditions should go parallel with our personality. However if our culture or tradition begins to cut cross our choices, or begin to influence who we are, then they should be left behind. Moreover tradition is something on which faith comes from within, hence it cannot be forced upon someone.

I am not supporting forcing but its our duty to carry our tradition . It should not be forced but it should be sown in the hearts at a young age .If not you , then who will ????

As we all know in todays world their no need of forcing tradition or culture , therefore one should have a sense to take interest in it.

we should not force it but we help our generation to live with its enrichmet

No,there is no need to force a person about tradition and culture .In this generation people won''t follow some of the tradition or culture .It means that they don''t like to do it. when a person doesn''t do a thing with interest there is no value for it. If it''s from their heart they will do it . So,forcing to follow traditions, rituals or culture is not needed.

i dont think the culture and the traditions which are followed and unfollowed by some people are to be forced . they are inborn , some times culture (religion) becomes your confidence ,so are the virtues from them . i strongly feel that culture should not be stressed. Forcing the people to follow a particular culture or a particular tradition is a bad action. We must not force any one to follow a particular culture. Because we have the right to religion in india. So i think culture should not be forced. As we have many cultures and traditions in india people will follow which ever they like.so forcing ot not good, but the good advantage is they have very good moral values. We shold not forget it.

Dhwani Miglani DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL ROHINI

I feel that culture is something that we must respect from within. When we force it on someone, it''s value will diminish.

S.ROHITH KRISHNA Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

No one should a person to follow or do something that they do not like.A person must like the work he do.now, culture and tradition is something unique,it should not be forced ,a person must on get impressed by it and follow.

Prakhya Gupta Jayshree Periwal High School

As we grow, there are certain morals and principles imbibed by us over the course of years, however when it comes to forcing tradition or culture on a person, it may result in a change in their character and desires. For example, a person may want to pursue a certain path in life or have a particular ambition, but their culture doesn''t allow it. This way, their character along with their aspirations are being forced down.

RAKSHITA C S AMARA JYOTHI EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIO

Culture and religion are only created by us to be moral and to be a good individual but there is no need for anyone to force others about culture. We can''t teach anyone culture, it has to be accepted heartily.
