Panchami: Are Parents Turning Out To Be ATMs?

Parents are turning out to be ATMs - Any Time Money for their children in my opinion. Parents think that providing their kids what they want and seeing a smile on their face is a testimony of them being a "good" parent. But it is really short sighted approach to do that.

I will share an incident with you: It was on one of my exam days that naturally I was very nervous and it was not one of my school exam so I was relaxed, When I received my paper I found almost 60% of the paper tough, Mid way through the paper all the students in my class started to copy by sending chits and what not, I was the one who didn't look up from the paper and gave my best.

I did that not because I wanted to score less but because I believed in ethics and values. Life is more than mere marks to me, These ideals in me where taught to me by my parents. My parents never see my report card but instead the question my behavior. Perhaps that's what made me feel "special" about myself. In the day of the parents meet ; all the students got A1 except me as I got an A2. All the parents of my fellow students were hugging and kissing their kids promising them their gifts.

But when I looked into my parents eyes my parents had a sense of pride within themselves that their daughter had followed their footsteps by taking the righteous path. I felt satisfied. Their happiness and love means more to me than their gifts. All I wanted to deliver is that if we need good citizens, we need good children. If we need good children, then we need good parents.

Parents need to be far sighted and make their children capable of building a bright future of India.

Do you think that good parenting is the root of a good country?

Yes, I do feel that good parenting is the current need of the hour because this youth generation are the next protectors of our country. Thus, we can conclude that better the parenting, better the future of the nation.

Wonderfully expounded the character of lovely parents! Yeah! Ofcourse good parenting is important. Environment impacts the child. It is parents and teachers who influence them the most. So good parenting is much. Hats off Panchami!

There are many parents who are not ATMs. But I have seen parents who have become ATMs. This is not right though. The children stop understanding the value of money. Instead parents should spend time with their children. The children start showing off their things. The other children get depressed. But children have a never ending demand for latest products.

Yes, good parenting is indeed the root of a country. But I personally feel that the definition of "good" parents as defined by today''s youth is absolutely incorrect. Parents can be called good only when what they have taught their children, those values and ethics are followed by their children, In Panchami''s anecdote as it can be found that she remembered that cheating is not a good thing as taught by her parents and took the right step. This shows the good upbringing of her parents

THANK you all for supporting the cause, I am happy that my thoughts have been conveyed to my fellow peers. This will definitely lead to to the bright future of INDIA as the change begins right now, in the youth of the country.

ESHAL REZA Shri Shikshayatan School

Yes,I think good parenting is the root of a country. When parents just see report cards of their children then they forget that report cards will not stay longer in society but good behaviour will. Parents are truly turning ATMs for their children that is not good as the child won''t understand value of money. I think good parenting does not need A1 in report cards but in behaviour.

Yes, good parenting is a crucial topic nowadays because while some parents are careful not to spoil their children and instil good values in them, others simply give their children whatever they want which in fact increases their stubbornnes, vanity and greed far from making them thoughtful and understanding people.

Jiya Tomar BGS National Public School

Apparently, this is absolutely true. However in today''s generation this is one major fact misunderstood.

my parents always tell me that they used to be scared while talking to their dads and hence never talked back or made their side clear. but nowadays instead of parents controlling kids kids control parents. i am not saying that every parent should be strict but the should know how to restrict.
