No sale of books, uniforms in schools: CBSE

In what can be called a paradigm shift, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked its affiliated schools across the country to shut down shops selling textbooks, stationery, school bags, uniforms, shoes and similar articles within their premises.

The board has asked schools to strictly comply with its affiliation bye-laws and “not indulge in commercial activities”, which includes sales through “selected vendors”. CBSE’s circular on “commercial activities” in schools said they had received complaints from parents and other stakeholders on schools indulging in commercial activities like selling books, uniforms, etc.

“There is a nexus of profiteering. But our affiliation bye-laws are clear that schools are a community service and not commercial entities,” said CBSE chairperson RK Chaturvedi.

Not a good move. Today, maximum number of school children''s parents are working. If school will stop selling uniform or books then it will be a tiresome task for the parents to shunt the markets for their child''s uniform and books. I feel that it would have been better if the board would have announced selling of NCERT books only thus, banning private publications.

CBSE can also look after the books in curriculum, random publishers in the curriculum for even 5th standard are of no use for the child in future and irrationally expensive and not easily available, they even become nothing more than trash after that single academic session.

It is a good move from CBSE as the schools are selling unwanted stationary items to the students. CBSE should also check the publishers of the books which school provides. The schools publish the books themselves with easy syllabus and apply the books in the schools with high rate. CBSE should order the schools to apply NCERT books only.

The decision of selling private books in the school is wrong because the parents cant afford such kind of books as their is a big amount of school fees , uniform , coaching fees , etc and now these private book . As compared to older and present time book fees is growing day by day . So selling of private book should be banned .

It is a good move from CBSE as the schools are selling unwanted stationary items to the students. CBSE should also check the publishers of the books which school provides. this would help our parents to get rid of purchases on stupid things including stationary.
