Is It Fair To Put The Entire Blame For Fake News On Social Media Platforms?

Fake news has always been a part of society in the form of rumours and gossip and it is the people who spread them who are to blame. Having said that, social media has certainly given such malicious people a wide platform to spread ‘toxicity’ faster.

Social media giants are doing their best to stop the wildfire (fake news) but they are being bogged down by the need to respect users' privacy. Everything depends on the reader's mindset and his ability to distinguish the fake from the real.

Blaming social media platforms for fake news makes no sense at all. Social media is only a tool to carry messages. Such rumours would still spread because there are people who spread rumours and believe them. So the blame rests on those who spread the news and those who believe it without verifying.

Blame for fake news cannot be on social media platforms. Social media is a very powerful tool to dissipate information and knowledge. It is the responsibility of the educated citizens to ensure judgement and responsibility in reacting to fake information. India has diverse population with different educational and socioeconomic background, it is the responsibility of the government as well as educated youth to bring in the awareness in our society towards responsible use of social media.

Not at all ! As a computer is just a tool without being added data to it, similarly this is the gift of polluted mind of the people who think destructively are the reason behind. And ofcourse credit to the spreading fake news also goes to so called FB friends who without even reading what is the issue and post is about just send it across...

Vanshika Hariya New Horizon Public School Airoli, Navi Mumbai

Yes, social media can be blamed for spreading fake news. Today people spent most of their time on social media. any news or message if forwarded spreads like wild fire. Without checking its authenticity and aftereffect they are forwarded. These news can cause inconvenience and hurt emotions of many people

Social media is a platform where people express their views and opinions. I dont think its fair to blame social media entirely for the spread of rumours but even then steps are being taken to prevent this. At the end its the users who blindly believe them.

Social media has brought the people throughout the world closer from all nooks and corners. You can found your old friend on the social media when you are away from him/her for many days or for many years.Man is usuing his creation for their own destruction.
