Is Free Press Vital For Democracy?

On the World Press Freedom Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that a free press is vital for democracy. Do you agree?

The press plays the vital role of connecting government and citizens by highlighting the pros and cons of government policy in an unbiased way. However, people can be misled by media.

It’s said that eternal vigilance is the price we pay for liberty. A free press highlights issues that affect the masses and raises its voice when something wrong happens on the social front. So, a free press is truly necessary for democracy.

The media is quiet on a lot of issues and therefore, the PM is right in asking for a free press. The fourth estate, as a watchdog in a democracy, should have an unbiased approach.

i think free press in vital for a good democracy because people as well as leaders can actively voice their thoughts through the press.People can also be updated about what exactly is happening in the country and the leaders can have an insight about various problems faced by people of different areas. This platform is very essential for a country to be democratic

In a country like India where corruption and malpractices are prevalent, the role of press becomes much more vital. To bring transparency in the work of government and introspect the efficiency of the centre, it is important to grant certain rights to press and media. This also paves way for a healthy democracy

I free press is very important in a democratic government. This type of a government gaurantees freedom of speech and expression. To protect this right such a press is required where citizens can freely express their opinions and thoughts. Moreover a free press would mean that opposing views about events, acts etc could be expressed. This would also ensure clarity in the government and other areas and would eradicate corruption.

Free press is vital for democracy. But media channel should not oblige to their vested interest rather should deem it to be their duty to act as fourth pillar of democracy by presenting a neutral view to public. As it is a generally observed that channel exaggerate works of an individual party. Concealing and suppressing the works of others.

Free press is vital for the democracy as it provides every tom and jack to voice up their opinions against any issue. We all are familiar with the fact that running a country with 130 crore people is not a child''s play. If free press doesn''t exist, then it will be impossible to have a word with the youth of the country most importantly.

The basic principle of a democracy is that it is a government of the people, so the more freedom press is allowed the more democratic a country becomes because the press serves as medium of communication between the people and their representatives. In fact, PM''s Digital India is making it possible for a wider audience to participate in the democracy, their views can now be heard by the press and the politicians with power.

A free press is a vital branch in a democratic country like India . As for every small or big news is highligted to us for understanding the issue ,and form a perception about it . Press works as the louder voice of the common man ,and shows all the matters to us of malparctises done behind our back by any political party or any such field of our interests. However it , makes us belive in false perception . Still a free press is nesscary for the better functioning of a democratic country.
