Govt offices in Goa will soon ban plastic from their premises as part of a Swachh Bharat initiative. Should others follow suit?

This is a great move by the Goan government; in fact every corporate office and state office in Goa should be a part of the Swachh Bharat programme. For a state like Goa, which draws visitors right through the year, it is extremely important to ban the practice. Or else the beaches will become garbage dumps very soon.

Plastic waste disposal is one of the greatest concerns in effective garbage management; this menace is growing at a tremendous pace. Banning its use may help curb waste, and if this step is initiated in govt offices, others will follow suit.

Thin plastic is causing floods by  choking drains during the rainy season. This has become a recurring problem and only a ban can save the day. Simultaneously, the government should work on a proper garbage collection system and effective waste management procedures.

Am really happy to know about the initiative taken up by the Goan government that every corporate office ad state office should participate in the swachh bharat programme. Goa is a state which has no.of beaches or areas which is more or less crowded by foreigners each year. Banning the disposal of wastes into these water bodies is a successful step taken . I think such initiatives should be taken by governments of other states too so that we could aim in cleaning India collectively .
