Former England Captain Michael Atherton Feels That IPL Has Disrupted The Game Of Cricket. Do You Agree?

IPL is an event every cricket fan waits for. It provides exposure to greenhorns as they get to play with cricketers from around the world. Instead of disrupting the game, it has nurtured players, improved their game and brought people together in support of the team. IPL has become a brand in itself and motivated other sports to join the league format too.

IPL has provided a forum for new players to come forward and display their talent.  Players who took years to get noticed now have nationwide outreach and recognition through the IPL. It has also prompted more people to watch cricket.

IPL marked the evolution of cricket. Just because the longer version of the game came first, "purists" feel IPL has disrupted the game. Many veteran cricketers have said that a lot of spectacular shots would've been impossible in the original format of the game. I strongly feel that IPL has added a new dimension to the sport.

As IPL is being conducted every year and that too at least one game every day which means, each team is playing matches hardly two to three days apart, in my opinion the players are taking it more like a hectic practice once in a while. So I feel that the saying of Michael Atherton about disruption of cricket due to IPL is not correct. Rather due to IPL players are in a regular touch with their arm i.e. bat and ball.

The game of cricket has evolved over the years. Cricket has a mass following and IPL gives opportunity to both seasoned and aspirant players as well as to the masses to experience and enjoy the game. New talents from all sections of society can be discovered , rather than in the olden days where cricket was restricted only to the elite and called ''The Gentleman`s Game''. IPL also generates employment not only for cricketers but also others involved in IPL. IPL is a boon to cricket and society

No. IPL has not disrupted the game of cricket but is like a match between two Indian states where players from different countries come together to form a team forming good relations.
