Barry Richards believes AB de Villiers should give up the Proteas one-day captaincy if he decides to prolong his international career. What’s your view?

De Villlers should give up his captaincy because the South African team recently lost the T20 series in England and also previously stood on the losing platform in the ODI series against the same opposition. Also, De Villiers’ side made a first round exit in the Champions Trophy 2017 after losing to India. Barry Richards is right.

ABD should hand over the captaincy to another player if he wants to improve his international career and records. Taking cue from Dhoni and Sachin, he should concentrate on his own game without the burden of captaincy affecting him. Only then can he get back to his explosive batting form.

AB de Villiers is an outstanding batsman and captain. He was the one who took South Africa into WC semifinals, by breaking the losing streak.  Though Proteas have lost a couple of matches in recent past, it doesn’t mean they should change their captain. RSA is a strong team and will come back with a bang.

I agree with Akshat. Our very own South African star AB de Villiers has been doing extraordinarily well in his career. Let him continue his captaincy till he retires. I am saying so because he knows his team in and out for a couple of years. Any change in captaincy will upset the team''s balance. They are currently among the top teams in the world. Yes, South Africa is a strong team. I keep on repeating this but a few failures in life happen and they are just one''s trying and testing times.

I completely agree with Ayushi and Akshat. AB de Villiers is an amazing cricketer and has been and will always remain a great benefit to the South African Team. All the players play very well under his captaincy and he also guides the team properly. He should not even think of retiring right now. It is too early!!

Watching recent performances of AB De Villiers, I agree with Barry Richards that AB De Villiers should give up captaincy. He is not able to score runs because of the pressure of captaincy. By giving up captaincy, he may return to his form.
