Pink City: On A Heritage High

Heritage, food, shopping... Amaan Siddiqui from Cambridge School, Indirapuram, Ghaziabad recommends Jaipur for all three

Recently we embarked on a two-day trip to Jaipur, also known as Pink City. The trip was inspiring, fun-filled and adventurous. We visited the beautiful Birla Temple, imposing Amer Fort, floating Hawa Mahal and City Palace. We were initially expecting this trip to be only a bonding session with friends. But it turned out to be even more. It taught us to take pride in our country and explore its rich heritage. At Birla Temple, the tranquillity took us by surprise. Amer Fort, a World Heritage Site, stood out for its large ramparts, imposing gates and cobbled pathways. Its walls stretched as far as the eyes could see and just by looking at its facade, you knew it must have ensured the safety of generations of rulers. The ramparts provided a bird’s eye view of the surroundings. Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds is a magnificent piece of architecture in the heart of the city. We also went to the famous Johri Bazaar which has exquisite Rajasthani artefacts and items of daily use. From rajais (quilts) and sarees to bedcovers and semi-precious stones, this is a shopper’s paradise. And if you are a foodie, gatte ki sabzi, ker-sangri ki sabzi, laal maas, mawa kachori etc. should not be missed. When it was time to leave the city, we had a heavy heart. Most of us were sure we would be back.
