Saahil: Are Women Safe In Our Country?

India, a land known for its diverse culture and unity, has established a name for itself around the world. India is growing day by day in almost every single aspect of development. However, one single factor always keeps us one step back no matter how much ever developed we are i.e. the safety of women in our country.

The question that arises here is that are they really safe in our country? Day-by-day the crime rates against women are increasing. People still objectify them and are treated as an inferior. Even though it has reduced large extent as compared to previous times, it still exists. Women are restricted from doing things by stating that the world outside is bad and its better that they stay at home or if they do go out they should be back before the sun sets.

In cities like Delhi, women are barred from going out at night due to the high crime rate against women. Is this something to be proud of? Men should be taught the basic lesson of respecting women and not just show off their masculinity in front of them. There is a common stereotypical belief which states that a real man is one who has a well-built body and is easily able to woo girls. But most them are the ones who do not care to respect women.

This not the definition of a ‘real man’. A real man is someone who respects a lady and protects her no matter what happens. Men are idolised in our country which is one of the main reasons of them losing their self-respect and committing such a heinous crime against a lady.

Women are not objects; they are human beings as well and are far more capable of doing anything they want to do. They are not to be taken lightly as they are someone to be respected. They should not be treated as if they are not worthy as they are more worthy than men for doing any given work.

No matter how much ever developed our country becomes in terms of science, economy and so on but we can only say that our country in developed when women of our houses can go out of their house irrespective of the time, when they can do whatever they want without anyone judging them and when they would no longer have to carry a pepper spray with them when they leave their houses. That would be said when we can say that our country is well-developed.
