Bhoomika: Commitment Is All It Takes

I was selected to anchor a big event at school. I am a good speaker, but the thought of anchoring such a big event made me nervous. On one hand I was very happy that I had been selected, but at the same time I was very anxious. It got to me so much that I felt I would not be able to do it and actually told my teacher as much. But she would hear none of it.

This is not the way one must respond to opportunities. Everybody doesn't get a chance and when you are given one you shouldn't step back, she told me firmly. There is no need to be nervous or anxious, stay calm and do what you have to do, she insisted. So I took her advice.

On the day of the event I did my part really well. Nervousness may seem silly but it can really get to you. But from that day I have not had stage fear. This opportunity made me bold and confident. I learnt that a small piece of advice and your commitment is all that you need to face any difficulties in life.

Opportunities do not knock twice. Grab them with both your arms outstretched. Make the best of each opportunity. Chisel yourself, stroke by stroke, to get the best out of you.
