The Toughest Phone — CAT S60
androidpolice.com

If you are into an active lifestyle, sprinkled with a dab of carelessness, chances are you would have faced a broken phone at least once in the past.

Yes, that's CAT as in Caterpillar - the American giant whose main expertise lies in construction and heavy machinery but who also dabble in many other fields which luckily for us also includes smartphones. There are plenty of other phones out there which do well for people who need added duress but this one surely takes the cake.

Specs: With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, one that runs the likes of HTC One A9 and Moto G4, may not be the latest but it's a decent one when combined with 3GB of Ram. 32 GB of  internal storage with a memory card slot are welcome editions. The phone runs on Android 6.0 and CAT keeps updates flowing in to make sure their flagship is never behind. These are but essentials and any mid-range smartphone today will pack similar specs but it's the added features that make this otherwise bulky phone (thanks to it's half inch thickness and fully die-cast metal chassis a friend for those with an appetite for adventure.)

Multiple Certifications For Duress: Features which include resistance to salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shocks with an MIL-STD-810G rating; the latest in terms of US Military standards. The phone is IP68 certified for water and dust protection. This means that you can take the phone along for most of your adventures except for anything under 5 meters of water for more than an hour.  Yes, that's the kind of water-resistance unseen on phones before. But that's not all.

Thermal Imaging: It also has a FLIR camera, which helps with Infrared thermal imaging. This makes it very very usual in fields where you need to find, locate or trace animals or rescue human beings, apart from providing a kind of night vision. The phone can measure temperatures at up to 30m distance and can display it real-time. Interesting? Well, that's not all. It also has a hiking app inbuilt and it's version of Google Play comes with an overlay which helps you to locate apps specific to your interests with ease.

And finally the SOS feature: Anyone who has seen 127 Hours knows that any hikers ultimate nightmare is being stuck in an unknown area with no help. SOS feature on CAT S60 will make sure this never happens. With one push of a physical button on the S60's side, your location will be sent to a contact of your choice.
