Living In The Cosmo World

They say the world is a global village. Yes, indeed! Technology, modern modes of communication, common social issues, among other factors, have brought humanity together in the 21st century. So, is it time to think beyond borders? In a Times NIE survey, we ask students their opinion...

A netizen: In this age of Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites to which we are hooked, and are able to connect with people from different parts of the world, I am not confined to a particular society, but am a netizen who is connected with the rest of the world. Global exchange programmes where I get to interact with students from other countries courtesy the web have helped me to think beyond class, home, state or country. For me, web is the limit!

- Sourav Kumar, class X, Indus Valley World School, Kolkata

A globozen: I don’t believe that  boundaries, races, caste and religion can differentiate people. One thing that binds us together is humanity and we should respect that. In other words, we are all essentially the same, we are of the same species and that’s enough to make us all a family. We are the world. So, why bind ourselves to a particular entity? How about calling ourselves globozen — citizens of this globe?

- Sujitha Parshi, class X, Carmel School- Pr, Bangalore

Earth patriot: Religion, race or class hardly matter to me. What matters is faith in humanity which exists in every being on Earth. I owe my allegiance to humanity. So, I would prefer to identify myself as an Earth patriot —  a lover of mankind. In fact, with schools encouraging these sentiments among students, the idea of thinking of ourselves as Earth patriots will become a reality.

- Ahona Mukherji, class X, Sanskriti School, Pune

Global citizen: I consider myself to be a global citizen as my thoughts and beliefs are not limited to my country’s borders. I relish rajma chawal as much as I relish a ravioli with tomato basil cream. I do not have a narrow-minded approach nor are they influenced by my territorial boundaries. It is more of a global thinking because that’s what is good for the world.

- Pronoy Mahajan, class X, Fr. Agnel Multipurpose School, Mumbai

Earth warrior: When all of us are part of the same world and face similar problems such as global warming, terrorism, increasing world population and so on, it is obvious that we are globally connected. Isn’t it time, we rose above parochial issues and thought beyond our personal identitities? And this will come true if we consider ourselves as Earth warriors — fighting together for various global causes.

- Harshita Jhawar, class X, Nasr Girls, Hyderabad

A citizen of the Universe: There was a time when our forefathers were confined to one place. To make living convenient, the idea of class and state emerged. But the development of technology, coupled with connectivity, has shrunk the world. No wonder, most of us think of ourselves as world citizens today. So, I am a definitely a citizen of this Universe as all of us are part of this globe. The whole world belongs to us and we are a big family!

Radhika Srijamuna, class XII, CMS, UPIL, Lucknow

Cosmozen: With space tourism becoming the in thing and manned expedition to Mars and Moon, a reality, I believe we are moving towards a cosmo world.

- Astha Mohanty, class VII, DPS, ND

Global Brains: We can''t actually say that there are no conflcts between people. But still we can live together with brotherhood instilled the core of our souls. In this modern digitized era, social networking may bring different groups of people together. It also allows a number of citizens to consider the pros and cons of numerous social issues. We, rather than being part of one single society, can become a participant who are connected to the issues at an international level.

ARJUN MAHAVARI KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA (SR.)(AGCR ENCL)

According to me space is just not what we see , Now we are living on the earth but from the sense of relativity we are also living in the cosmo world so why should I go out from the earth and who knows that one day all planets also create their atmosphere
